The Minority Leader in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin, stole the spotlight during the annual celebration of the Aboakyir Festival in Winneba.
The Minority Leader, who hails from the area, dazzled festival-goers on May 2, 2026, in rich traditional regalia, complemented by a traditional hat.
He was seen wearing a white scarf around his neck, while two women stood beside him, fanning him as he sat majestically on a traditional stool.
At one point, he stood up and treated the crowd to some dance moves as drummers performed at the event.
Meanwhile, the Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming Effutu into a major tourism and economic hub.

In a post shared on her social media page on May 2, 2026, Prof Opoku-Agyemang, who joined the people of Effutu to celebrate the 2026 Aboakyir Festival, described the event as a key platform for preserving identity while driving jobs, investment, and local development through strategic infrastructure and cultural enterprise investments.
“The Aboakyir Festival is a platform for rediscovering, preserving, and promoting identity. Government is therefore prioritising investments in access roads, infrastructure, and cultural enterprises to position Effutu as a growing tourism hub capable of attracting visitors, creating jobs, and boosting local economic activity,” she wrote.
The Vice President also highlighted flagship programmes of the John Dramani Mahama-led government, including the Women’s Development Bank to expand financing for market women and small businesses, the rollout of the 24-Hour Economy policy with nationwide round-the-clock markets, and youth-focused initiatives such as Adwumawura, aimed at turning ideas into viable businesses.
