Aboakyer 2026: Veep pledges tourism and economic growth for Effutu

The Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming Effutu into a major tourism and economic hub.

In a post shared on her social media page on May 2, 2026, Prof Opoku- Agyemang who joined the people of Effutu to celebrate the 2026 Aboakyer festival, said it is it is a key platform for preserving identity while driving jobs, investment, and local development through strategic infrastructure and cultural enterprise investments.

"The Aboakyer festival is a platform for rediscovering, preserving, and promoting identity. Government is therefore prioritizing investments in access roads, infrastructure and cultural enterprises to position Effutu as a growing tourism hub capable of attracting visitors, creating jobs, and boosting local economic activity", she wrote.

Veep speaks on the need for transparency and trust in governance

The vice president also highlighted some flagship programmes of the John Dramani Mahama led government including the Women’s Development Bank to expand financing for market women and small businesses, the rollout of the 24-Hour Economy policy with nationwide 24-hour markets, and youth-focused programmes such as Adwumawura aimed at turning ideas into viable businesses.

"Government is also intensifying its focus on youth development, with programmes such as Adwumawura designed to support young people to transform their ideas into viable businesses. Strategic infrastructure projects, including the Kasoa–Winneba road, remain a priority, given their importance to regional economic transformation", she stated.

Prof Opoku-Agyemang also underscored the importance of major infrastructure projects like the Kasoa–Winneba road in supporting regional economic transformation.
