The family of a 33-year-old man allegedly killed over accusations of witchcraft at Tengelento-Buradeni in the Kpandai District of the Northern Region is calling for justice to be served.

According to a report by graphic.com.gh, the deceased, identified as Nteja Ibotul, was reportedly attacked on April 15, 2026, after claims emerged during funeral rites that he had spiritually caused the death of an elderly community member.

A soothsayer invited during the funeral rites allegedly accused Ibotul of being responsible for the death.

The accusations heightened tensions in the community and forced him to flee the area.

However, he was attacked by unidentified individuals while leaving. He sustained severe head injuries and was left by the roadside.

He was later rushed to the Kpandai District Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

His body has since been deposited at the ECG Hospital morgue for preservation and investigation.

The Assembly Member for the area, Joshua, confirmed the incident, initially describing it as a road accident.

He later clarified that it was not a crash but a violent attack after investigations began.

The family has expressed frustration over what it described as delays in police action nearly two weeks after the incident.

A relative said the deceased allegedly named five suspects before his death, and their names were submitted to the police to assist investigations.

However, the police say the family has not fully cooperated with investigators, particularly regarding arrangements for a post-mortem examination and proper identification of suspects.

They explained that verification of information remains necessary before arrests can be made.

Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive for Kpandai, Haruna Abdul-Karim, has condemned the incident.

He urged the police to intensify investigations and encouraged residents to provide credible information to support the case.

Abdul-Karim also gave the assurance that DISEC would back law enforcement efforts without interference.
