A member of the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) communications team, Hamza Suhuyini, has stressed that power outages must not be accepted as a normal part of life, assuring that the government is taking steps to resolve the country’s energy challenges.
Speaking amid ongoing outages popularly known as dumsor, he said the administration remains committed to restoring stable and reliable electricity supply, despite the difficulties confronting the sector.
According to a report by citinewsroom.com on May 2, 2026, Suhuyini noted that while the situation remains a concern for many households and businesses, efforts are underway to address the root causes and improve overall power generation and distribution.
“Outages in whichever form are not something we must encourage, and so this government is doing everything within its power to ensure that we resolve the challenges confronting the energy sector,” he indicated.

He added that the government’s approach is guided by a determination to end the cycle of unreliable power supply and prevent disruptions from becoming entrenched in everyday life.
According to Hamza, the current administration is fully committed to implementing measures aimed at restoring consistent and reliable power, particularly in light of what he described as the difficult conditions inherited from the previous government.
“So for us, we do not need to be reminded by the NPP when it comes to the energy sector and the economy. Maybe they are beginning to appreciate that they are now in opposition because GRIDCo started shedding load as far back as 2024, and by December 2024, they had shed 700 megawatts. When we asked for a dumsor timetable, they asked us to prepare our own timetable,” he said.
