And our new 3 years High School system has destroyed athletics and all sports. During the Form 5 and Sixth Form days, we spent all our teenage years in school participating in sports daily. Inter-school competitions flourished and unearthed talents. Now the students are too young and on Tik Tok and Facebook instead of outdoors.

The question we shd ask ourselves why the rush in completing school early? The change from O & A Levels to BECE & WASSCE has come at a huge cost to the state.Qualifying to the FIFA WC was very difficult in those days, otherwise Ghana would had won the WC in the 80s & 90s bcoz we had far better players than today bcoz of Colts football. Don't forget the change also affected athletics.

COLTS AND INTER SCHOOLS
I’ve been saying this over and over that the Academy nonsense is the root cause of the destruction of our football. It’s all about money. We always copy blindly. This academy thing is for Europeans. Ours was the colts where everyone could display their talents without or very less cost. Now if you don’t get someone to sponsor you to one of these academy which are operated by these same GFA gurus, you’re a waste. There are a lot of talents out there but because of poverty that’s depriving them into these academy nonsense, nothing comes out of them. Football was for hustlers and not the rich.

Playing good successful football comes from training a group of youngsters at an early age, who play among themselves for several years to bond as a team. It doesn't come from just calling any player who another country has trained to form a team. We have done this over and over and failed, but continue to do the same thing thinking that changing coaches is the solution. Changing the GFA top brass and replacing them with a team of leaders who will restart the colt system is the only solution.

We now prefer calling people whose great grandfathers were Ghanaians, but who know nothing about Ghana and its football. It's a shame.
