Renowned lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata in a light-hearted but thought-provoking exchange has addressed why his wife Esther Cobbah, continues to use her maiden name.

The couple during an interview with broadcaster Kwaku Sintim-Misa (KSM) aired on May 1, 2026, reacted to a question directly posed to Esther Cobbah, on why she does not adopt her husband’s surname despite being married to what he described as a “legal colossus.”

“Isn’t it part of your bragging rights that you are Mrs Tsikata?” KSM asked, prompting laughter among themselves.

Cobbah responded with humour and confidence, playfully pointing to the uniqueness of her name.

“In literature, I would say my name falls under alliteration. Esther Amba Numaba Cobbah… ba, ba, ba,” she said, noting that her husband also appreciates her name.

She then recounted how the question had come up before and how her husband responded on her behalf.

“One time somebody asked, ‘Why doesn’t she use your name?’” Esther Cobbah said.

“In fact, he [Tsatsu Tsikata] answered for me; ‘I have the woman, what do I need the name for?’” he said.

A response that threw all of them into laughter.

Cobbah also recounted events surrounding the imprisonment of her husband [Tsatsu Tsikata].

She indicated that looking back, she is sometimes surprised by the strength she demonstrated during that period, describing it as a defining moment shaped by faith and resolve.

Esther Cobbah, widely regarded as a leading figure in communications and founder of Stratcomm Ltd has built a strong professional identity under her maiden name, which she has retained throughout her career.
