The University of Cape Coast (UCC), one of Ghana’s premier universities, has been thrown into a state of mourning after its staff were identified as the victims of a gory road crash on the Accra-Cape Coast Highway on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
GhanaWeb earlier reported that two people were killed and five were injured in the crash, which happened at the Third Ridge Junction along the Accra-Cape Coast Highway.
The two deceased have now been confirmed to be staff of the university. One of the victims, according to reports, is Dr Kwabena Koforobour Agyemang, a senior lecturer at the Department of Geography and Regional Planning of the university.
The second victim was his teaching assistant, who has been identified as Peter Amoadu Asmah.
The crash occurred in the early hours of Tuesday when a heavily loaded tipper truck was forced into a critical manoeuvre after an oncoming vehicle reportedly veered into its lane while overtaking.
According to eyewitness accounts, the accident occurred when the tipper truck attempted to avoid the oncoming vehicle that had veered into its lane while overtaking. In the process, the truck reportedly lost control, causing it to overturn and fall onto a saloon car carrying two occupants.
