The Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has broken his silence following a recent attack on him by the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, Dr Mary Awusi, against him.

Speaking at the Pentecost International Worship Centre, Trasacco branch, during a thanksgiving service to mark the 60th birthday of the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, Apostle Nyamekye downplayed the remarks and indicated that he holds no grudge against her.

According to him, the actions of Dr Mary Awusi have rather made him and the Church of Pentecost more popular.

“As for this lady, she has made me more popular. People like that, I don't think about them because she's just made our church and myself more popular.

“If I held anything against her, like standing here to speak for 45 minutes, I would have said something about her. But I think that we all have our opinions on issues, and so let's just forget about these things. So, I've forgiven her,” he said.

His response comes after comments made by Dr Awusi in reaction to concerns he raised over the impact of illegal mining, also known as galamsey.

Earlier during the service, Julius Debrah, in an emotional state, rendered an apology to Apostle Eric Nyamekye.

In the video shared by GBC on Sunday, April 26, 2026, Julius Debrah was seen on stage before the congregation, alongside the Senior Pastor of Alabaster International Ministry, Prophet Kofi Oduro, as he addressed the gathering.

During his remarks, Debrah noted that he and other members of the government are staunch members of the Church of Pentecost and hold the church in high reverence.

Rendering his apology, Debrah described the comments made by Dr Mary Awusi as a ‘slip,’ stressing that it was not an attempt to malign the chairman or the church as a whole.

“But the chairman of our church, you know, myself, Hon Elder Ofosu Ampofo, our Local Government minister, and several others are members of your church. A few days ago, one of our colleagues, Dr Mary Awusi, slipped a bit against you, and I want, on this occasion commemorating my birthday, to let the whole church forgive us.

“It was just a slip. It wasn't intentionally done to malign our church. I believe sincerely that you will forgive her and forgive us and accept us as your children. God really bless all of you,” he added.
