Government opens scholarships for local tertiary students

The government of Ghana, through the Ghana Scholarships Authority, has officially opened applications for the Local Tertiary Scholarship Scheme for the 2026/2027 academic year.

The scholarships are open to all Ghanaian students who have gained admission into recognised local tertiary institutions.

A statement issued by the Director-General of the Ghana Scholarships Authority, Alex Kwaku Asafo-Agyei, indicated that Ghanaian students can apply for the scholarship from Monday, April 20, 2026, to Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

“The Authority invites qualified Ghanaian students who have gained admission into recognised local tertiary institutions to apply for this opportunity, which is aimed at supporting needy but brilliant students to pursue higher education within the country.

“Application Period: Monday, April 20, 2026 to Wednesday, May 20, 2026. Applicants are strongly encouraged to submit their applications within this period, as late submissions will not be considered,” part of the statement read.

The authority stated that after the submission of applications, “shortlisted applicants will be invited to undertake an aptitude test and selection interview as part of the assessment process.”

1. All applications must be completed online via the official Scholarship Portal - www.apply.scholarships.gov.gh.

2. Complete the application form.

3. Upload all necessary supporting documents.
