The streets of Accra are dark at night. There are no street lights, no reflectors on curbs. Aboboyaas and taxi tricycles have inundated the city. The zongos are sprawling and spanning and spawning. These are the things you should be checking to avoid disasters. Not validating this antiquated and archaic chieftaincy institution. Driving in Accra at night is always a brush with death. Check it Mr. Minister.

There is no traditional leader in Ghana suffering!!! Every traditional leader is at least a middle class person! Because they are the people selling the lands , taking royalties of all the natural resources of the lands!! NDC think ooo.. think!!! The endorsement of this people alone cannot win u power when the ordinary Ghanaian is struggling!!!

This is an unnecessary burden. Why should local rulers get 300% increase in allowances? These rulers have enough money, they sell lands, get royalties and what have you. Teachers, nurses and laborers are suffering in Ghana, they don’t get their minimum allowances in time, the government owns them, and yet the government has money to increase payments of chiefs, what kind of nonsense is that? School children don’t get enough food, no money but there is money for these useless things. Traditional leaders should not be use for political gains.

@Jay Swiss. I fully agree with you. I am an NDC supporter but I must admit that I am finding Mahama so annoying. The guy is not impressing me. He has no sense of urgency and I can not see anything concrete coming out of his so called reset agenda. ORAL is also dead. I advise him to watch the YouTube channel called "Bantucitydiaries" in order to get an idea of what he should be doing to put the country on track. Much of what is discussed in that YouTube channel are equally applicable to Ghana. We (in Ghana) exhibit all the shortfalls addressed in that channel. So Mr President watch the "Bantucitydiaries".

@Kwaku. Yes, the President should watch the YouTube channel to know what to do because the issues addressed in the channel are exactly what some of us expect him to address in his reset agenda if he is serious with transforming the country. Transformation of the country should not be limited to "construction of roads" which of course is necessary but not sufficient. His inability to take swift decision is manifested in his inability to appoint a new Defence Minister since the demise of the former Minister more than 6 months ago. I perceive Mahama as a man with no sense of urgency. Just think of it. We're living in a turbulent world with wars all over and we do not have a Defense Minister. How reckless can one be as a leader?

I totally disagree with this huge deal to pacify this institution of traditional rulers. Most of them are just zombies and enemies of progress. Other nations use their monarchy to generate financial gains to their nations. Some of ours in Ghana just abuse the land and it's citizens. Manipulation of justice to their favour and selling of lands to multiple buyers.
I think every traditional ruler MUST give a detailed and published progress report for their input towards their ruling community.

This is not what is needed. Do u want us to clap for the government? This is absolutely rubbish. The traditional chiefs do not survive on this peanut allowances. Some of them are gainfully employed others are in their highly profitable businesses. Those who need the money are the teachers who have worked for over a year without salary. The nurses who have not been posted. If the government increases the allowance of traditional chiefs by 1 million percent and fails to pay teachers and other public workers it rather worsens the entire situation. Set your priorities well and stop the eye service.
