Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has pushed back against former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s recent call on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to complete the Agenda 111 hospital project.
The Agenda 111 initiative was launched under Akufo-Addo’s administration to construct 111 district and regional hospitals across the country, with assurances that the facilities would be completed before he left office.
In his recent remarks, the former president urged the current government to ensure the completion of the project, insisting it must be delivered.
Responding to the comments, Akandoh questioned the basis of the former president’s call, pointing to what he described as unmet commitments under the previous administration.
“The former president, I wish he had not made this statement. Unfortunately, he has. He assured Ghanaians that Agenda 111 would be completed before he left office,” the minister said.

He added that even when considering the extended timeline earlier communicated by Akufo-Addo, the outcomes fell short of expectations.
“Let me even grant him the longer period he gave that he would complete all Agenda 111 hospitals before leaving office. By that time, GH¢4.8 billion had been spent on the project, yet not a single facility was operational,” Akandoh stated.
The minister described it as ironic for the former president to now call on the NDC government to complete the initiative.
“So, this is the person calling on us to complete Agenda 111,” he added.
Akandoh, however, hinted at the current government’s commitment to delivering results, suggesting that efforts are underway to advance the project.
