‘Any preacher who tells you to give to your parents before your pastor is not working for Christ’ - Pastor

Pastor John Wesley Amenuku Agble, leader of the Apostolic Recovery Movement, has stated that any preacher who instructs believers to give to their parents before giving to their pastor is not working for Jesus Christ.

In a recent sermon to his congregation in a viral video shared on social media, Pastor Amenuku criticised such teachings, insisting that the role of a pastor in a Christian’s life outweighs that of parents.

He explained that while the Bible commands believers to honour their father and mother, the pastor’s responsibility of guiding souls toward eternal life carries greater spiritual significance.

“You hear pastors say that if you have not given your mother this amount of money and you bring it to me as a pastor, you are not wise.

“Have you heard it before? They say you should give to your parents first before you come and give to the pastor. And when you hear such speeches, I'm telling you, you know that he's not working for Jesus Christ,” he said.

He further argued that parents themselves rely on pastors for spiritual deliverance, healing and blessings, making the pastor the central spiritual authority for the entire family.

“How do you compare the two? The role of your mother cannot even perform that role. Your mother brought you into the world. Yes, we don't take it from her.

“The Bible says we should honor them. Honour them. But you can't compare the two.

“One brought you into this world and this world is full of troubles. This world is full of challenges. One will take you to the other side, which is of more value, where you will live for eternity.

“This one will guide you into heaven. And you want to reward the one who brought you into this world full of trouble more than the one who will guide you into eternity. In any case, your father and your mother bless you in the same church.”
