Sympathy and sorrow counts for nothing if we don’t learn from the tragedy, and do things differently !!!
Wake up government and make life jackets mandatory. Teach children how to swim. Teach them basic survival skills.

The Boat Owners and Operators should be held responsible for not making the Passengers wear the appropriate Safety Jackets to prevent the Passengers from drowning in case of any disaster. Safety measures are never taken seriously in Ghana.
I remember crossing the Volta Lake from Yeji to the other end as a young student on a Field Trip. The Ferry was very much overloaded with Passengers and vehicles but nobody has any Safety Jacket on. We are not serious and responsible when it comes to security when it comes to Transportation. Even our vehicles on our roads have no Fire Extinguishers and First Aid kits.

Implement measures to protect lives instead of just offering support to families after the victims have passed away. Africa is afflicted by irrational leaders.

How many more human lives have to be lost on the Volta before our leaders wear their thinking caps ? Our minister of Roads and transport should know that water transport also falls under his domain and just like he is overseeing the construction of good roads to make road transport safe , he should also make sure that boats ,canoes and ferry plying the Volta are water worthy. Why is the government not investigating in water transport and that sector is left for individuals to provide transportation with dug out canoes. There are a section of Ghanaians whose daily means of transportation is by canoes and the government must also prioritize that sector to save lives. It is disheartening when mothers and children lose their lives when crossing the Volta River when our MPs drive around in SUV’s and fancy vehicles . I wonder if those who travel in these dug out canoes have access to life vests? Our leaders should do better . Too many lives have been through canoe accidents on the Volta and Ghanaians expect some remedy from our leaders .
