The Asante kings most heavily involved in slave raiding and trading were Osei Tutu, Opoku Ware, Osei Kwadwo, Osei Kwame, and Osei Bonsu.
Osei Tutu (c. 1670s–1717) established the empire and secured control over gold fields, using the wealth to purchase firearms from Europeans which facilitated further expansion and the capture of slaves.
Opoku Ware (c. 1720–1750) continued this aggressive expansion, reaching the empire's fullest extent and integrating it deeply into the lucrative gold and slave trades with British and Dutch traders.
Osei Kwadwo (c. 1764–1777), Osei Kwame (1777–1801), and Osei Bonsu (c. 1801–1824) maintained a centralized state where the economy relied heavily on the export of captives, with an
annual exports estimated at 6,000–7,000 people by the end of the 18th century.
These monarchs systematically traded enslaved people, captured during wars and raids against neighboring states like the Denkyira and Fante, in exchange for European firearms, luxury goods, and manufactured products. The trade became a primary source of wealth and military power until Great Britain outlawed the slave trade in 1807, which crippled the Asante economy and sparked conflict with the British.

When I was a child my uncle had a bullet mark on his chest and another on his back. It was said that he was a reincarnation of a granduncle of ours, who was sold into slavery.
He manage to work, paid the amount which was used to buy him, came to the house of the former slave master to take his possessions.
The former slave owner who sold him to the one he bought himself from gave some people guns to shoot him and his elder sister, who was my great grandmother.
My great granduncle was shot and the bullet wounds were the scare on the chest of my uncle who was also a grandnephew of our granduncle, who was shot dead.
