The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has confirmed the crash of a microlight aircraft in Tema.
According to a statement released on Monday, March 16, 2026, the aircraft, registered as 9GADV, had been flying from Ho to Accra and was estimated to arrive in Accra at 1520Z, but the last radio contact with the aircraft was recorded at 1418Z, more than an hour before its expected arrival.
“The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) can confirm that a microlight aircraft with registration number 9GADV crashed in Tema on Monday, March 16, 2026.
“The aircraft was flying from Ho to Accra, estimating Accra at 1520Z. The last contact with the aircraft on radio was at 1418Z. There were two persons on board,” the statement read.
The GCAA did not provide immediate details on the condition of those on board, stating only that further information would be provided in due course.
The news of the crash has sent shockwaves across the country, coming barely a year after the crash of a Harbin Z-9 helicopter operated by the Ghana Air Force on a scheduled flight from Accra to Obuasi crashed in the Amansie Central District on the morning of August 6, 2025, killing all eight people on board.
