As Ghana continues discussions on the establishment of a National Airline, it is important that the Government works closely with experienced investors and industry stakeholders to lay a strong foundation for the future of aviation in Ghana.
Leadership from H.E. John Dramani Mahama, together with respected Ghanaian investors such as Daniel McKorley (McDan) and Ibrahim Mahama, could spark the beginning of a truly national aviation industry that supports local capacity and expertise in the industry.
Ghana already has entrepreneurs who have invested heavily in different areas of aviation. These individuals deserve recognition and encouragement.
Countries like Nigeria have shown that when aviation authorities and governments deliberately support their own professionals, the industry grows rapidly.
Institutions such as the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and airport authorities actively promote
and protect the growth of their local aviation businesses.
Ghana can learn from this example. Our regulators and institutions, including the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority and the Ghana Airports Company Limited, should continue to support Ghanaian citizens who are investing in aviation infrastructure and services.
One notable example is a young Ghanaian aircraft engineer from the Upper East Region named Moses Nsor who established Rams Aviation, an aircraft maintenance company at Kotoka International Airport.
The first of his kind training and employing young aviators from KNUST at his facility at the Airport shoukd be sort for to help the country
Just two years ago, the area where this facility stands was largely undeveloped.Thick forest this young engineer turned the area into a world class facility international accepted who handles foreign airlines apart from Klm Maintenance is the president or minister aware.
Through dedication and personal investment, he transformed that land into a modern aircraft maintenance operation that now handles services for foreign airlines operating through the airport. The first of his kind in Ghana from the Upper East Region by name Moses Nsor.
This achievement demonstrates the level of competence and international qualification that Ghanaian professionals possess. Yet many of these efforts remain largely unnoticed.
If Ghana is truly serious about establishing a viable National Airline, then professionals like this should be recognized and included as part of the national aviation development strategy.
I personally encountered this engineer years ago at Nassau Airport in the Bahamas, where he was working on a four-engine aircraft preparing for a long transoceanic flight. Seeing a Ghanaian performing such high-level technical work abroad was inspiring. Today, seeing such professionals return home to invest in Ghana should be a source of national pride.
Let us therefore be nationalistic in our approach. By bringing together government leadership, private investors, regulators, and experienced aviation experts, Ghana can build a strong aviation ecosystem that supports
maintenance, operations, and training within the country.
Aviation development should not be politicized. It should be treated as a national priority focused on competence, collaboration, and long-term growth.
