I remember during the latter part of the 80s & early 90s, some Faculties in UG were not awarding 1st Class to their students yet these students went into the world and excelled. We've diluted our assessments & destroyed it. It's true that getting First Class is not a Guarantee to success in life, but there's a correlation between the number of very good students coming out of our universities and the progress of the nation. When you cheat to get First Class it will reflect later on in your performance at work.

Who needs a First Class? Just name a single company started by a First Class individual. With First Class you will end up being a teacher.

Some of us left school a very long time ago. When I look back now, I see something remarkable. Most of those ACADEMICALLY brainy and smart kids in Primary school, Secondary school and even University did not eventually give such a good account of themselves (in other words they did not live up to the hype that surrounded their academic brilliance). In contrast a lot of our school mates who would have been considered "D" or "E" or at best "C" grade academic material went on to achieve spectacular results. A large proportion of these "average Kojos" and "average Abenas" went on to excel in a wide range of professions and vocations. Many set up their own businesses or enterprises are now very successful, exceptionally wealthy or very financially secure. Some live in Ghana and some abroad.
Looking back now I see that these not so academically brilliant ones possessed or developed certain SUCCESS ENABLING TRAITS that cannot be measured using mere academic performance. This should be a great source of encouragement for those who are regarded as “average” or “below average” in school. Thes later life successful ones have the following characteristics:
1.INITIATIVE (they have a “get-up-and-go” spirit)
2.COURAGE (they are not intimidated by obstacles)
3.TENACITY AND PERSERVERENCE
4. THE ABILITY TO OVERCOME OR RISE ABOVE ADVERSITY AND SETBACKS (This is a critical trait)
5.THE ABILITY TO PRIORITIZE AND SET REALISTIC GOALS (They don’t allow themselves to be side-tracked by early success or by the need to impress others- for most of the time while they are building their careers or vocations they deliberately stay below the radar)
6.THE ABILITY TO PRACTICE DELAYED GRATIFICATION (postpone enjoyment today so that you can reap a harvest tomorrow- these people tend to focus on improving their skills, saving for tomorrow and the budget very carefully)
7.THE ABILITY TO SET ACHIEVABLE GOALS AND CONSTANTLY ADJUST THEIR TECHNIQUES AND THE APPROACHES THEY USE TO SOLVE PROBLEMS.
8.BEING HONEST/ HAVING INTEGRITY (STAYING ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE LAW) SO THAT THEY DON’T THROUGH GREED DESTROY YEARS OF LABOUR OR PROFIT.
9. BEING ABLE TO GET ALONG WITH OTHERS AND NETWORKWITH OTHERS OR BUILD CONTACTS (allowing them to learn from others who have been on the same road before them). THIS REQUIRES HUMILITY. UNFORTUNATELY, ARROGANT OR CONCEITED PEOPLE TEND TO SABOTAGE THEIR OWN SUCCESS SOONER OR LATER WHEN THEY MAKE MISTAKES WHICH CAN BE AVOIDED IF THEY HAVE SOME HUMILITY. Humble people can learn from other people’s mistakes and thereby avoid costly or painful mistakes.
*A surprising number of these individuals tend to be people-oriented, kind-hearted, generous and empathetic (having the ability to be in somebody else's shoes) and they had these character traits long before they became very successful or wealthy.
*In addition, these later-in-life successful individuals also tended to see opportunities where others didn’t.
*A large proportion of these erstwhile “average " individuals are God fearing and have solid values and beliefs.
SO THOSE WHO ARE JUST A MERE C OR D GRADE ACADEMICALLY OR WORSE SHOULD TAKE HEART. REMEMBER THAT YOUR MOST VITAL STRENGTHS CANNOT ALL BE MEASURED BY YOUR SCHOOL EXAMS OR PERFORMANCE.
