Air Commodore Kwame Korankye Pumpuni retired had an illustrious career in the Ghana Air Force.

He attended Sekondi College birthed by Joseph William Acquah on September 25, 1951, which impeccably churned out notable alumni such as Anthony Benin, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, John Henry Cobbina, ACP Kwasi Koranye Amoah retired, Colonel Nick Sowatey retired, Major George Kofi Sekyi Amissah-Aidoo retired and Captain Baffuor Assasie-Gyimah retired for his secondary education.

After enlisting into the Ghana Military Academy, he underwent officer training and was commissioned into the Air Branch of the Ghana Air Force on September 30, 1961, alongside Major-General Edwin Sam retired who occupied the position of Chief of Defence Staff.

Air Marshal Achilles Harry Kwami Dumashie, Brigadiers Israel Kwaku Amoah, Godfrey Naapie Goumil and Colonel Emmanuel Mensah Osei-Wusu all of blessed memory were his intake mates.

From May 15, 1972 through to July 31, 1973, he commanded the Air Force Base at Accra and proceededed to command the Tamale Air Force Base a year later.

A towering figure who distinguished himself within Ghana and beyond, he served as Chief of Air Staff from May 7, 1980 through to January 13, 1980.

After twenty-two years of unblemished and meritorious service, he retired from the Ghana Armed Forces.

The one-time Manager of the Achimota Golf Club also served as President of the Bok Nam Kim Golf Club.
