The position raised by Kwami Sefa Kayi is essentially a call for fairness and historical perspective in discussing the challenges facing Ghana’s cocoa sector and the leadership of Randy Abbey. His argument suggests that it is unreasonable to blame a relatively new head of the Ghana Cocoa Board for problems that accumulated over many years.
The cocoa industry did not suddenly fall into crisis overnight. Long-standing issues such as large debts, forward cocoa sales made at lower prices before global prices surged, declining production, smuggling, illegal mining, and climate-related challenges had already weakened the sector before the current leadership took office. These structural and financial difficulties were created through decisions made across previous administrations and management teams.
In that context, Sefa Kayi’s position questions why critics, including figures like Rev. Charles Owusu, are quick to single out Randy Abbey when many of the underlying problems originated earlier. Some of the same individuals now criticizing the sector were either part of, or supportive of, the system when these decisions were being made.
The broader lesson is that the cocoa sector’s difficulties are the result of years of policy choices, financial commitments, and management practices, not the actions of one individual. Therefore, constructive debate should focus on reform, accountability, and long-term solutions, rather than turning the issue into political blame directed at a single manager.

On what critical analysis did he increase the price or he was hallucinating when he took that decision. Our problem as Ghanaians is that we don't tell the truth even when it's obvious. We shall never advance as a nation if we're not prepared to do what's right. Today, farmers are poorer by losing over 30% of their income and the govt doesn't care because they don't feel the pain. Why should Mahama appoint an incompetent Randy Abbey to head COCOBOD whereas Minister of Communication or Sports is there. Is personal allegiance more important than farmers' living conditions. Politics in Africa is detrimental to the fate of its citizens. Mahama doesn’t give a dime about farmers who are in debt, can't pay school fees, have to live wretched lives all because Ghanaians made a
mistake in bringing back an insensitive incompetent president. Sometimes too I blame the electorate. We're too stupid and don't critically analyse our leaders and their capabilities. We live in a country where people with very limited understanding of complex economic issues are given a microphone to speak with confidence about matters they clearly have not studied. It would be irresponsible for any government to pay cocoa farmers a price that is significantly higher than the prevailing international market price. Commodity markets do not work that way. These are the foolish political decisions made by the previous government which you supported and ended up being a beneficiary of stolen public funds used by Sir John to acquire assests which he fraudulently willed to you.
What worries me is when commentators speak about forward sales as if buyers are naïve participants. These international buyers have experienced market analysts who study price trends and forecasts before entering contracts. In any market, the seller may set a price, but the actual value of the commodity is determined by market forces and what buyers are willing to pay.
When people — including radio hosts — discuss these issues without doing basic research, they risk misleading the public and creating unrealistic expectations. Cocoa farmers are business people; they understand that commodity prices fluctuate and that the market can rise and fall.
Public commentary should be informed, responsible, and grounded in facts rather than emotion or political talking points.
I am surprised you're still walking a free man.

Do any of you complaining about the price of cocoa beans or the non-payment truly have principles of equity and working brains for reasoning or you take sides because you read without understanding or so tribal and political that there can be no hope for compromise?
For the 8-year Akufo-Addo/Dr. Bawumia NPP majority government, cocoa farmers received approximately 40 percent of the price of cocoa on the international market. Cocoa farmers had to pay for fertilizers and other government assistance.
If HE John Mahama's government offers to pay cocoa farmars 70 percent of the price of cocoa on the international market which was 6000 cedi during the 2024/2025 season then why would anyone, with common sense that is, assume that the price of cocoa on the international market is going to stay at or above cocoa prices in 2024/2025 for the 2025/2026 cocoa season or beyond? Can anyone name a time in Ghana or around the world where the price of any farm product stayed same year after year?
Do the cocoa farmers who are having the tissy-fit and their ignorant politicians and so-called social commentators tell us all if they pay the same price for plantain, cassava, rice and other farm produce each year? If not then what makes cocoa farmers important than farmers of other farm products?
Up to this time, I am yet to read from social commentators, NPP pundits and wannabe politicians, who are but dimwitts, a cogent argument why government must keep paying cocoa farmers more than 100 percent the price of cocoa on the international market. Is there anyone?

Also, no government had ever paid the full producer price of cocoa to our farmers since the days of Nkrumah including when your Mahama was president from 2012-16 so, what changed suddenly?
Did you read that under Randy Abbey, the price of cocoa on the world market went up to $13,000 but he and his novice team did absolutely nothing expecting more price surge then.
Election will not end today, and we shall see who will go to the farmers and ask for votes. Nobody in his right frame of mind will appoint Randy Abbey as CEO of a cocobod than John Mahama the born fool who had plainly said that he is "Undecided".
