  Generosity is powerful—but empowerment is transformational.
  The news that Ghanaian business mogul RNAQ plans to share free gold on March 21 is certainly sensational and generous. Yet it raises an important question: Are we giving people fish, or are we teaching them how to fish?
  A Chinese proverb wisely says, “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” Real and lasting change often comes from empowering people with knowledge, skills, and opportunity.
  Recently, a foreign philanthropist reportedly invested nearly a million dollars to transform the lives of schoolchildren. The ripple effects of that kind of investment can last generations. As Nelson Mandela reminded the world, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” From such seeds may rise future doctors, engineers, teachers, and innovators who will shape our nation’s destiny.
  African wisdom also reminds us: “Wisdom is like a baobab tree; no one individual can embrace it.” True development grows when communities are empowered to learn, work, create, and build together—whether through education, farming, entrepreneurship, or innovation.
  Acts of charity deserve applause. But history often celebrates those who ignite potential, not just those who distribute wealth.
  As another African proverb says, “The child who is not embraced by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth.” Let us therefore build a future where opportunity, skills, and education embrace our people—so they can rise, thrive, and lift others along the way.
  Doing good is noble. But empowering people to sustain themselves—that is legends ary.
