Private legal practitioner, Kwesi Botchwey Junior, has filed Right to Information (RTI) requests at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), seeking details on several claims made by President John Dramani Mahama during the recent State of the Nation Address (SONA).
Sharing details of his request in a Facebook post on Monday, March 2, 2026, Kwesi Botchwey stated that the petition submitted to the EOCO relates to the President’s claim that the agency had recovered GH¢600 million as of December 2025.

“At page 32 of the President’s State of the Nation Address, he mentioned that Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) had investigated 462 cases and recovered over GH¢600 million as of December 2025,” he wrote.
According to him, the request seeks details on the specific cases from which the reported amount was recovered from, as well as, the individuals involved and other related information.
“We requested details of the recovery, specifically: The cases in which the GH¢600 million was recovered, the persons involved in the cases in which the monies were recovered, the nature of the cases and their case/suit numbers, the dates of the recoveries, and the details of the bank accounts into which the recovered GH¢600 million was paid,” he added.
Regarding the RTI filed with the Ghana Statistical Service, the lawyer explained that his request seeks a detailed breakdown of the jobs created, as well as, information on the institutions responsible for generating the employment, in relation to claims made by President Mahama during his SONA in Parliament.
“Our second request was filed with the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), demanding details of the one million jobs reportedly created by President John Mahama in 2025. I requested the following: a breakdown of the jobs created, including: jobs created in the private sector, jobs created in the public sector.
“Details of the institutions that created the one million jobs, namely: public institutions, private institutions and other entities,” he added.
President John Dramani Mahama during the State of the Nation Address on Friday, February 27, 2026, claimed that one million people gained employment between the first and third quarters of 2025, citing data from the Ghana Statistical Service.

Meanwhile, the claim has been reported to contradict data published in the Quarterly Labour Force Survey by the Ghana Statistical Service.
