You are very right but rivalries between Koforidua schools during sports festivals are absolutely disgusting and abnormal. During our years, it was SECHTEECH that was the most violent. The students who were usually drugged on Weed could just invade NJUASCO, attack, beat the students there and RAPED the female students. Yes, they could go to GHANASS and attack them. They occasionally attacked Pope John students but that was difficult because that is a Boys’s school.
Out of such stupidities, they once attacked the students of SDA Teacher Training College after a Field Hockey tournament but they bit more than they could chew. The College students were bigger in structure and very more matured and experienced. The College students beat the Sechtech boys to it using Machetes, inflicting severe damages to the invading SECHTECH Students. From then, SECHTECH students were seen as the aggressors and were banned from any Sports Competition in the Eastern Region of Ghana and the school was closed for Semester. Only Final Year students were allowed to come back to school to write their GCE O and A Level exams. Even then, they were only allowed back as Day students and under a very heavy Armed Police Escort. After the exams for the day, they were expelled from the school and no students who were not writing exams were allowed into the school. There were enforced Armed Police presence at the school campus. I don’t know if they were severely marked down by the WAEC but they failed terribly miserably.. The offending students and school should be sanctioned miserably. Every student must be Debordinized. Students and for that matter no person should be allowed to sleep in front of stores three miles from the school. Taxis and other Commercial Vehicles should not be allowed to operate four miles from the school. Let them walk four miles to the school and back as they write their exams
On the last day of school, there should be a Dusk to Dawn Curfew at Koforidua so that they cannot gather to organize any destruction and disturbances.

Can we say the boarding housing system that Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah brought is serving its purpose?I think we have to take a critical look at it again and review it.I will be happy it's scrapped and Primary, JHS & SHS merged into one school. Day Students will be kept in their own localities close to their parents to be monitored. Discipline seems to have broken down partly bcoz of this archaic boarding housing where tutors are struggling to instil discipline.

I remember teaching at Ghana Secondary School at Tamale. It was just very sad and horrible. The Sixth Form students had completed the Lower Sixth Form without teachers. When I got there, I had to teach African Traditional Religion at the Sixth Form, Sixth Form Physical and Regional Geography, . and Sixth Form History. I was always teaching from 7:00 a.m until 9p.m . I was just 24 years and it was too much for me but if I should leave, the students had no alternative. The Headmaster Mr. Kudos or had to treat me like an egg so that I didn’t abandon my students. I had great sympathy on the students and did not even come South to my Parents. The students also chose to remain in school for me to teach them to cover what they had missed. At the end of the year, my headmaster pleaded with me to spend another year but I didn’t because I am the only son of my parents and he didn’t want me to remain there and possibly marry a lady there and get stuck there.
It is difficult and almost impossible to make students Day and go to school at where they come from. Rawlings would never have attended Achimota School but a school at Keta.

Accra Aca used to dominate in sports in the 80s ,were on top of this rivalry in Greater, we had by then boys who were as old as 22 or 23yrs but we never used machetes.

You are right. I come from Asokore and grew up at SEDATCO. Koforidua SECTECH was the most undisciplined Secondary School in the Eastern Region at that time. They could go to any of the Mixed Schools in Koforidua and attack them and rape their women. They once attacked SEDATCO which was a Teacher Training College with grown up men who were matured. SECTECH bit more than they could chew. The SEDATCO students repulsed the SECTECH students attacks with sharpening weapons, especially Machetes. They hid their ladies in the bushes and responded to the SECHTECH Students attack with open bravery. The men of Asokore and Effiduase helped the SEDATCO students who had been warned of the invading SECTECH students. I was then teaching at SEDATCO and living at the College campus. I took my wife and daughter into the bush to hide and came out with my Loaded Double Baralel gun and laid in wait for any of the attackers. As they got about two hundred yards from my house, I fired the double shot and they all run heater skelter out of fear.
I think that District High School Athletics, Soccer and Field Hockey should be banned in the Eastern Region because of SECTECH. or there should be very enhanced Police and if possible Military Personnel presence during such District and Regional Games. Yes, Force must be met with Absolute Force respectively.

Don’t talk about what you don’t know. This started in the Seventies and SECTECH were always the aggressors. For no serious reasons and tangible reasons, they sometimes attacked NJUASCO students even if they were not having any sports tournaments but just for the fun of it. They were just notorious for any vandalism during any sports tournament or just for the stupidity of it. I am glad it has now been turned into a mixed school. And strangely enough, Pope John School which is a Catholic Boys school are academically excellent. SECTECH is academically very poor. It was one of the academically poor Sixth Form schools in the Eastern Region of Ghana. It should have been turned into a Girls’ School like Aburi and Saint Monica.

It’s students’ thing; a malady that isn’t acceptable but incurable. From time immemorial, some students of Ghana just listen to the sordid history of BEEF between schools, then deem it right to repeat those idiotic histories - some take these too far. Oral traditions of nkwasia violence. They’ll leave school with terrible grades then would blame Akuffo Addo & Mahama.
