The New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Kennedy Agyapong, has conceded defeat in the 2026 presidential primaries.

Addressing the media after a large portion of the ballots had been counted, Agyapong noted that he had experienced a similar defeat in the 2023 primaries; therefore, the 2026 outcome does not come as a surprise to him.

He urged his supporters to remain calm and united, stressing that they should not let the loss weigh them down as setbacks are part of politics.

Kennedy Agyapong asserted that he is not perturbed by the outcome and remains confident about his political future.

“God will take care of you. He knew today was going to come, we did not know, but God who created us knew this would come to pass. We experienced this in 2023, so today is no different. Everyone should stay calm. We have champagne, one beer, eat what you can, and let’s see what God has for us,” he said.

Provisional results show Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in a comfortable lead, with Agyapong trailing behind after collation from several polling stations.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission has yet to officially declare the winner of the NPP’s 2026 presidential primary.
