The issuance of a Ghanaian passport to popular American streamer Darren Watkins Jr., popularly known as IShowSpeed, has sparked an online clash between EIB Network journalist Lily Mohammed and Louisa Laryea, the wife of renowned journalist Israel Laryea.
Recently, on January 28, 2026, GHOne TV journalist Lily Mohammed criticised the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, for issuing a Ghanaian passport to the American streamer.
During her criticism, which has since sparked widespread debate online, Lily Mohammed questioned the importance of granting a Ghanaian passport to IShowSpeed.
According to her, the minister’s action was disrespectful to Ghanaians, adding that Okudzeto Ablakwa’s decision amounted to an insult to the people of Ghana.
How some personalities reacted to IShowSpeed’s Ghana tour
Following her comments during a television editorial on January 28, 2026, Louisa Laryea, in a cryptic Facebook post sighted by GhanaWeb, slammed Lily Mohammed over the remarks.
According to Louisa Laryea, the journalist should have conducted thorough research, interrogated data, and demonstrated sound reasoning before criticising the minister.
“Journalism goes way beyond make-up, skin bleaching, BBL, hair, and fashion. Journalists ought to research, court the facts, interrogate data, and demonstrate sound reasoning,” she wrote.
Following the post, Lily Mohammed, who appeared displeased with Louisa Laryea’s comments, clapped back.
EXPLAINER: Why iShowSpeed's streaming in Ghana is important
Responding to the post, Lily Mohammed stated: “…That you are married to a journalist definitely does not make you one. The profession is not sexually transmitted.
“I would have very much been open to a discourse with you, but seeing as you have absolutely no substance in that capacity, it would be a complete waste of my time. I hope you take a look at yourself in the mirror the next time you choose to be condescending, as you were with your distasteful post,” she added.
