If Star Oil can sell fuel at GHS 9.50 per litre and make a profit, why should the govt punish the "long suffering" Ghanaian consumer for the inefficiency and/or greed of other OMCs through higher prices?

It’s not about Star Oil alone , a floor price is essential to sustain the industry. If OMCs are allowed to undercut each other by lowering prices , the biggest amongst them cld still make profit but the smaller ones cld be pushed out of market. This cld create a cartel later . Also it protects TOR , TOR is old and rickety and cannot refine at a lower cost , if they are forced to lower prices further they may incur huge losses.
Also importers wld not want to import because of less profitability. And this cld create shortages.
Government taxes are also percentages of the price , lower prices mean less revenue for the government .
We understand and appreciate StAR Oil but they shd let the markets be where it is .

What is the price floor though? If you can't sell at GHS 9.50, can't you sell at 9.51, or even 9.60?

What is the point of deregulation. Will we get price ceiling when prices shoot up? There are more than ten inc so reducing to 5 is not bad if we will get low fuel. This current mechanism stiffles innovation and cost cutting

@Joko, your logic is so flawed it beggars belief!! Read your epistle again and identify the glaring anomalies inherent, then we can have a proper conversation. Hahaha!!

Why should there be a price floor. What happened with competition and efficiency. The consumer is king and should be able to get the best possible pricing

The price of fuel need to be reviewed only 2 times in a year after the government has able to stabilise the Cedi .
it is much prudent to peg the fuel at eg GHS 10 at the pump from January to June,
then review it from July to December . this alone could stabilise the prices in the country.
Drivers are not able to cutdown their fares due to uncertainty so to cure that ,
it is prudent to do the reviews only 2 times in a year. this would help the people in the country to at least use the 6months period to prepare for any adjustment.
if we are RESETTING the country , there are certain issues that has been a big player in inflation statistics those issues need to be addressed aggressively . fuel is one of the big players.

WHY IS THE GOVERNMENT NOT PAYING COCOA FARMERS FOR COCOA PURCHASED SINCE NOVEMBER 2025. WE WARNED MAHAMA RANDY ABBEY WHO HAS ONLY MANAGED METRO TV DOES NOT HAVE THE EXPERIENCE TO MANAGE COCOBOD. ASK YOUR BROTHER IBRAHIM MAHAMA IF HE WOULD APPOINT SOMEONE LIKE RANDY ABBEY THE CEO OF DZATA CEMENT. COCOBOD IS A COMPLEX ORGANIZATION THAT NEEDS SOMEONE WITH THE EXPERIENCE AND INTELLIGENCE TO MANAGE BUT NOT SOMEONE LIKE RANDY ABBEY. WHY COULDNT HE GET TO MANAGE ANY SERIOUS BUSINESS BUT STAYED AT METRO TV FOR SUCH A LONG PERIOD. ARE YOU PUNISHING THE FARMERS BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT NORTHERNERS OR GAS. YOU SEE, MAHAMA AND RANDY DONT CARE ABOUT THE PAIN OF THE FARMERS BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT FROM COCOA GROWING AREAS. IF THE GOVERNMENT CANNOT PAY COCOA FARMERS, WHERE ARE THEY GOING TO GET MONEY TO RECRUIT NURSES AND TEACHERS. DO YOU SEE HOW YOU HAVE BEEN EXPOSED
AND YOU ERIC OPOKU, YOU COMING FROM A COCOA, WE THOUGHT YOU WOULD FEEL THE PAIN OF THE FARMERS. MAHAMA AND RANDY ABBEY THEY DONT CARE.
