Why can’t they pay the stipend of these poor students? Government is a continuum. Sense you are so stupid to talk about NPP GOVT in this matter. Every new government goes through the same cycle but it is how you manage the situation which makes the difference. Remember that the Uk government has a High Commission here and they monitor all the narrative, big talk and the plenty talk. If we are doing so well please sort out the students now. The situation is depressing and disgraceful. Go and see how those young boys and girls are living in the cold weather. God help Ghana. History will be written and the truth will eventually come out.

The students who are hiding under annonimity should speak plainly and Ghanaians will know that their fathers, uncles and spouses were either chief executives, ministers or MPs under NPP. Even fugitive self-made Ken Nana Yaw Ofori Atta's daughter had a scholarship to study at duke university for a BA social science degree offered in all Ghanaian university.

If the state is not in a financially sound position to finance overseas scholarships it must terminate the work of the Scholarship Secretariat until further notice. Rumours have it that the Scholarship Secretariat is owing students who have completed their courses .This is unacceptable. What is happening is a disgrace to Ghana.

Governance is about setting priorities. Forget about any other thing; not even the 24-hour economy promised! When Akufo-Ado said he would implement freeSHS even if had to borrow money, he delivered his promise. The NDC government is known to always struggle when it comes to scholarship payments. It's a historical fact! All scholarship recipients (including some known advocates of NDC) from 2016 to 2024 received commulative payments atleast every three or six months. We still remember that under JM's first term he couldn't post trained nurses for the whole of the term, and newly posted teachers were paid 3 months for 1 year work, but JM could afford to buy V8 vehicles for chiefs across the country, and invest in guinea fowls which vanished into thin air. Another historical fact! I hate nobody, but stand for the truth. If the NDC does something worthy of praise I will praise them. But, certainly not this fake cedi appreciation. I would expect a stronger cedi to be able to pay all workers, and scholarships, drive businesses, improve living standards. Failure to do so exposes a fundamental flaw which takes deep wisdom to identify.

Even these students may not return to Ghana after completing their programme. This is because there are a number of fellow Ghanaians with whom I completed PhD programmes in USA. They were on study leave with full pay, according to them. I have returned, although I was funded by USA funds. Unfortunately, none of my colleagues who benefited from Ghanaian funds never returned to serve Ghana. So, what is so important about thinking about publishing the withdrawal of these ungrateful people from programmes in UK. Who cares !!!!!!

Who said that a government promise is guaranteed? Look here, KBM, the problem with government administrations and with us, as Ghanaians, is that a vast majority of the citizens and of those who have served in governments generally lack foresight, wisdom and principles.

If Ghana, between 1963 through 1970, was a member of Non-Aligned nation states and if government administrations since the 1966 overthrow of Kwame Nkrumah have had foresight, vision and wisdom as Nkrumah and his administration then you, KBM, should explain why the a majority of the Non-Aligned nations are far advanced than us in Ghana while we we boast of hundreds of thousands of people who have studied and acquired experience abroad on government scholarship and assistance?

I hate to offend people but we are not going anywhere near development with home grown ideas and ideals if we continue to allow and offer scholarships for people to acquire post graduate degrees in Accounting, finance, economics, banking, law, policing and public safety, fine arts and languages, speech and many other areas while we do not dedicate scholarships for only people seeking advanced degrees in the sciences.

There is nothing wrong with advanced degrees in the areas of studies I listed previously except that they almost always require existing businesses where they can be hired to practice their crafts. Do we have a serious accounting firm in Ghana with a global reputation? Yet there are hundreds of of Ghanaians walking around with advanced accounting, finance and economic degrees without much handiwork to write home about. Then there are our nickel and dime lawyers who cannot represent Ghana on the global stage even as they strut their way in this small pond while government pay million dollars to contract foreign law firms to defend Ghana.

Simply put government must offer scholarships in areas of study that are critical to our development; there are enough doctors/PhD's in Ghana who go on TV , radio and media to talk so much jibberish without substance. It's a joke when we steal from government coffers with all of our so-called education so we can become 2nd class citizens elsewhere and feel honored because we think we're better living lives abroad than in Ghana.

The shame of it all is our pompous and arrogance brought on by our ignorance when people higher up the food chain in the NPP proudly say they're educated and yet had to go buy Covid-19 vaccines and get duped on pricing, or some fools who signed government contracts for sky train and so many silly packaged ideas. Would Ghana not be ahead of the curve if we had more Ghanaian experts in all the engineering disciplines, in Physics, chemistry, biomedical field and medicine?

Dr. Bawumia and his economics did not save us from the IMF, Dr. Brian Acheampong led the way on how to collude with his majority party to bankrupt public sector companies so he could acquire then on the cheap while others turned to accelerate our dependence on foreign goods by becoming export-import businessmen because they could not produce something as basic porcelain and ceramic for bathrooms.

Those stuck out in no mans land of their studies could come back and continue their studies in our local universities. All the applied theories and practical knowledge was going to go out of the window anyway. A majority of them would have come home to seek political appointments so they can mismanage funds to start side businesses while the used government funds for their so-called startups; none would have established businesses that made use of our natural, mineral and human resources to offer employment to thousands of Ghanaians period.

How scholarships were doled out to undeserving people. Some are even ministers and appointees relatives. We also saw how the Executive Secretary of the Secretariat was corrupt, collecting bribe and issuings to those who could pay. Aside that, we also witnessed how these scholarships were skewed in favour of a certain tribe. If you were not Agyeman, Asare, Boateng, Kwesi, etc but Agbodo, Gomda, Wumpini, Adongo, etc you were factorized out of the equation. We also saw how these schoalrships went to the political class: Adjoa Sarfo, Gifty Oware, Mathew Prempeh, etc.

The students should quickly create a special platform whereby each and every one of them individually submits his or her case WITH ALL DOCUMENTS to the High Commission for transmission to the Chief of Staff.

The Chief of Staff should quickly put in place a mechanism to verify the facts electronically, and a payment plan worked out with the Institutions.

I do not quite get the rationale for petitioning the UK Government.It is got fvck all to do with them.
I fail to understand why Government engages in a project and seemingly,not plan adequately as to how the project would be funded. The bottom line is,if the Government cannot adequately support students sent to study abroad,they should stop sending the students abroad.
