This is the meaning of ENTRENCHED position in Ghana s parliament
“ In Ghana's Parliament, an "entrenched position" refers to entrenched provisions in the 1992 Constitution—fundamental rules (like human rights, judiciary structure, election rules) that need a much tougher process (supermajority vote plus a national referendum with high turnout/approval) to change, protecting them from simple majority whims, unlike regular laws.
It can also mean the rigid stance parties take during debate on these key issues, making consensus difficult.
Entrenched Provisions Explained
Definition: These are specific articles or chapters in Ghana's Constitution that are deemed too important to be altered by a simple parliamentary vote.
Examples: They cover core areas like Fundamental Human Rights (Chapter 5), the structure of the Executive, Legislature (Parliament), Judiciary, and rules for Representation of the People.
Amendment Process (Article 290):
Council of State: Speaker refers it for advice.
Publication & Delay: Published in Gazette; 6-month wait before introduction in Parliament.
Referendum: After first reading, requires a national referendum with >40% voter turnout and >75% approval.
Parliamentary Vote: Parliament then passes it.
Entrenched Positions in Practice
When politicians dig in on these core constitutional matters (like electoral reforms), they take an "entrenched position," making bipartisan agreement very hard, as seen in hung parliaments where compromise is needed but parties hold firm on fundamental principles”
Ndc cadre and FOOT SOLDIER sua ade3 lol
Ndc with their numbers can pass an amendment without a NATIONAL referendum

For Parliament:
Non-Entrenched Provisions: A two-thirds majority of Members of Parliament (MPs) is required for approval.

For Referendum (Entrenched Clauses):
Voter Turnout: At least 40% of people eligible to vote must participate.
Approval: At least 75% of those who voted must cast their votes in favor of the amendment.

As soon it becomes an entrenched in parliament, even if Ndc majority MPs passes the amendments, there have to be a referendum!
The power of passing an amendment doesn’t only resides with parliament as the citizens have a say!!!
If Ndc passes it in parliament, the referendum will be tougher for them because it requires 40% of eligible voters turnouts!

NDC doesn’t believe in intellectuals like NPP – Dumelo
“The National Democratic Congress’ parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, John Dumelo, has said that the NDC is a party for the people as they do not have a category of people who should belong to the party.
According to him, the NDC does not believe in intellectuals like the other parties in the country as their members includes everybody irrespective of who they are.
“A lot of the NDC members are for lack of better expression, are people down there which is the masses. Because we don’t believe a lot in intellectuals and so on and so forth like some other people do believe in.”
Speaking on Face to Face programme, John Domelo said the NDC believes in the button to top approach as it is a social democrat party.
When asked by the host if the party does not want intellectuals in the party, he said “we do have intellectuals and we believe in them but we start from the button up but others starts with up button. We deal with everybody but we start from the base up. NDC is the party for everybody. We just don’t set any criteria.”
He added that he believes the NDC will win power come December 7, 2020, as he will win against the incumbent MP with a 54% vote margin rubbishing claims that the seat is traditionally for NPP.
“I disagree with people saying that it [Ayawaso West Wuogon] is traditionally NPP. We won in 1992 and 1996 but we have come close to winning it, especially in 2012. In 2004 and 2008 we came close to winning it. This is not like some Bantama seat, or a Mampong or an Ejisu seat that we know to be traditionally NPP. The Ayawaso West Wuogon is a seat we are going to win. I am not going to win it, it is the NDC that is going to win it. I expect to win…with a margin of 54.” He said.
Dumelo was so right lmaooooooo
