The people of Ghana watched and suffered for 8 years under ideas that were not well thought out and hurriedly implemented. Free SHS was used to win 2 elections. It had nothing to do with education. We all saw the results of the last SHS exams, when cheating was minimized. 24-hr economy has nothing to do with Tumu Fufu sellers. It’s an industrialization plan. How can you implement such a thing in a country with poor roads, erratic electricity supply, security challenges etc. You fix these first. Otherwise it will be like free SHS without building schools, providing textbooks, adequate food etc as we all witnessed recently. Ghana must also move up.

The jingoism of a political hack or is it abject stupidity. Comparing apples and oranges. SHS system is solely managed by government, 24-hour economy is not. Government is the facilitator, supporting the private sector. Here in the US some businesses operate 9 to 5 or 7 to 3 one shift while some run three shifts, both models operating smoothly in a 24- hr economy and government does not get to pick and choose the players.

I've always tried to refrain commenting on this man's type of nonsense. Dr Zaato was a rejected parliamentary candidate for Sissala East on the ticket of the NPP. He lives by lecturing at the Political Department of the UG. Any time he is empanelled on the TV Keypoint on Saturdays, he lambasts his paymaster the government. With his character, he is kantankerous and when Alfred Ocansey, the moderator asks him specific questions, his patience eludes him. He poses his own questions and answers them as such and the moderator accepts that. His analyses as an intellectual comes into question when his assertions more often do not have any bases. Other members of the panel would keep correcting him but to no avail. That is my opinion about Dr Zaato.
What is he saying? He says the 24-hr economy is still a mirage? Clearly, this man is an outsider. The ports are running 24 hours, the passport office is running 24 hours. Other relevant institutions are towing the same line. Now, government says the 24 hour economy project will be led by the private sector. Government has taken pain to reduce inflation, the policy rate has dropped, the cedi has appreciated, etc. All these pave the way for the private sector-led growth and its expansionist policy of the 24-hour economy.
Take a closer look. Zaato talks about 'mirage'. How much did the NPP leave behind in the accounts. Have you forgotten the public debts in the Energy sector? Have you heard of the looting and raping of the economy by Zaato and cohorts? If I were this man, with spoon still in his mouth, I will not take the path he has chosen. He may criticise but he must be pragmatic and suggest propositions worth working with. Delving into areas where he lacks competence is not the answer to satisfying his defunct party functionaries. What does it take to be a man if he cannot call a spade a spade? With all the sunshine, the blossoming flowers, the return to true happiness, the laughter of children around him, you would still wonder why Dr Zaato talks about 'mirage'. In the year 2026, when every thing promised has come into full realisation, Dr Zaato may either look for an island to settle on, or he may choose to migrate onto another planet to avoid familiar faces. That is the difference between optimism and pessimism.

Even if we give NDC’s Mahama 4th term, his 24 hours ‘naniama’ Economy will remain under their drawing board: when will NDC finish catching Ken Ofori Atta before they begin their campaign promise? Apuuuuu
