A section of football fans have lambasted former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher for his harsh criticisms of Mohamed Salah following the player’s recent outburst.
Salah said he had been “thrown under a bus” and had no relationship with Arne Slot after being left on the bench for Liverpool’s 3-3 draw against Leeds on Saturday, December 6, 2025.
It was the third successive game in which Salah had been excluded from the starting line-up by Slot amid the forward’s dip in form this season.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football on December 8, 2025, the 2005 Champions League winner with Liverpool chided the Egyptian player, labelling his comments a “disgrace.”
Jamie Carragher drops the hammer on Mohammed Salah, calls him Chelsea reject
"I thought it was a disgrace what he did after the game. Some people have painted it as an emotional outburst. I don’t think it was. I think whenever Mo Salah stops in a mixed zone, which he has done four times in eight years at Liverpool, it’s choreographed with his agent to cause maximum damage and strengthen his own position.
"Salah’s never won the AFCON. That’s not me trying to put Mo Salah down as a player. I’ve just said he’s one of the best players in the world over the last eight years, very few better. Everyone involved with the club feels like they’re in the gutter, and he’s chosen that time to go for the manager and maybe try to get him sacked," he said.
This comment sparked outrage among a section of Liverpool supporters, who accused the pundit of deliberately attacking the player to damage his reputation.
They fumed that the former Liverpool defender’s consistent rants and criticisms of Mohamed Salah amounted to “character assassination” rather than a fair assessment of the issue.
Some fans blasted Carragher for underestimating Salah’s achievements before joining Liverpool and insisted the Egyptian would forever be regarded as a legend above the ex-England defender.

Carragher's MNF interview on Salah was horrible & way OTT.

Disgraceful way to speak about him after all he's done for LFC.
Sounded like he was questioning Salah as a person.
Carragher comes across like he hates him and was waiting for something like this.

Carragher’s rant collapses once you stick to actual facts instead of drama.

Salah didn’t “choose the worst moment” he spoke after weeks of being singled out by media and u while the entire team was sinking.
100% agree. The biggest problem for me is the personal digs at Salahs career outside liverpool. He essentially implies Liverpool handed him all his success, instead of crediting Salah for being the reason we have won our first big trophies in this era

Coming from someone who has more ongoals than actual goals

Calling him a Chelsea reject, and basically questioning his character🧐 will you ever give over, if your a Liverpool fan you should be a lot more defensive of someone who has given you so much joy over the last 8 years 👍

I'm failing 2 undrstnd something here. The entire team keeps on conceding goals but Konate nd VVD never get rotated bt Salah is the only one that gets benched? It's only fair to Salah that Slot rotates the entire team around 2 find solutions for the team nd not bench salah only.

Talking about Carragher's Liverpool legacy:

PL appearances - 768
Goals - 3
Own goals - 7
PL titles won - 0
It's an ugly one.
Jamie isn't wrong. Mo could have handled all of this differently. It is interesting though that no one has then given Trent Alexander-Arnold the due respect for putting in a double defensive shift playing behind Salah all these years.

Before Salah Liverpool never won the PL for 30yrs...
