A section of football fans have lambasted former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher for his harsh criticisms of Mohamed Salah following the player’s recent outburst.

Salah said he had been “thrown under a bus” and had no relationship with Arne Slot after being left on the bench for Liverpool’s 3-3 draw against Leeds on Saturday, December 6, 2025.

It was the third successive game in which Salah had been excluded from the starting line-up by Slot amid the forward’s dip in form this season.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football on December 8, 2025, the 2005 Champions League winner with Liverpool chided the Egyptian player, labelling his comments a “disgrace.”

"I thought it was a disgrace what he did after the game. Some people have painted it as an emotional outburst. I don’t think it was. I think whenever Mo Salah stops in a mixed zone, which he has done four times in eight years at Liverpool, it’s choreographed with his agent to cause maximum damage and strengthen his own position.

"Salah’s never won the AFCON. That’s not me trying to put Mo Salah down as a player. I’ve just said he’s one of the best players in the world over the last eight years, very few better. Everyone involved with the club feels like they’re in the gutter, and he’s chosen that time to go for the manager and maybe try to get him sacked," he said.

This comment sparked outrage among a section of Liverpool supporters, who accused the pundit of deliberately attacking the player to damage his reputation.

They fumed that the former Liverpool defender’s consistent rants and criticisms of Mohamed Salah amounted to “character assassination” rather than a fair assessment of the issue.

Some fans blasted Carragher for underestimating Salah’s achievements before joining Liverpool and insisted the Egyptian would forever be regarded as a legend above the ex-England defender.
