The reason why the COCOBOD organization continues to systematically let our country down as far as our position as a major world producer is concerned, is because they continue to employ wrong people in that institution - both at the administrative and executive levels.

Just look at the reason given by that so-called PRO? Of all the possible cover-up reasons he could have conjured to exonerate his errant boss, is this the best that he could do? And this is a PRO of COCOBOD, a major global player in one of the world's most vital agricultural products and item of trade.

Mr. Randy Abbey himself must be a very audacious man for thinking that, he could get away with his offensive absence at the very important annual Farmers Day event. And he was not away due to his needed presence at some international conference to discuss the threatened quality, the sharply reducing quantity and the price of Ghana's cocoa on the international markets but he flew all the way to Washington to go and merely sit there to observe some other international football officials draw world cup pairings for the group stages of the actual competition next year.

Even if in the far-fetched possibility that Randy Abbey, who is more known in football circles, went to the Washington event to explore how COCOBOD can plug in some publicity on Ghana's cocoa or chocolate products in the global telecasts of the event next year, I still wouldn't have excused his absence. This is a major faux pas.

This terrible error of judgment by Randy Abbey, reverberates beyond the boundaries of the agric sector, into that of mainstream politics. It adds up to a creeping number of distasteful occurrences which steadily add up, not only to make govts unpopular but to also send signals of disappointment, hopelessness and despair among sympathizers and the citizenry in general.

And then again, to put some light into the darkness of your brain, COCOBOD does not plant cocoa. COCOBOD does not therefore own farms. What COCOBOD does is to financially and technically assist cocoa farmers improve the quality and quantity of their produce for purchase by COCOBOD.

The Cocoa crop is currently struggling to keep up with its critical position as the most important agricultural crop and the backbone of the Ghanaian economy and even though it appears that Randy Abbey goofed big time by not being present at the annual Farmers Day event when the President himself was present, it isn't because he is a Ga man like Tetteh Quarshie who was the one who introduced cocoa to Ghana in the first place.

If a Day set aside to recognize and celebrate cocoa and other farmers are unimportant to you and your Boss then you don’t have any business to double as PRO an acting CEO of COCOBOD.
Ghana is COCOA. Our pride is result of the hard work of MEN and WOMEN and their children in cocoa growing areas. It is a great honour and a privilege that must be embraced and to serve with dignity and respect for the people whose labour had made you who you are.
His Excellency President J. Dramani Mahama has promised to reset Ghana . If the President is serious about his words he should follow with action and demand the Finance Minister Hon. Atoh Forsen to relieve the CEO and PRO of their positions. COCOBOD currently is under the supervision of min of finance. It is about time that public servants behave professionally and respectfully to the public. There are many Ghanaians out there who have same or better cradentials who waiting for the opportunity to deliver better services to Ghana.
