JM is taking the bull by the tail instead of the horns. Try and copy Trump's bold decisions even though might sound too rough. Total ban to help local output like Nigeria closing borders for some time. Total ban on imported poultry products to push your nkoko nkitnkiti initiative. Protecting the business interests of party people who are into importation of rice, poultry and sugar. That's the main reason why the Komenda Sugar Factory is still sleeping. The vice president who comes from Komenda cannot bark, much more bite. Too much of obeying instructions from the IMF and World Bank. Be your own man and direct your country in the right path.

Myopic take. U must be a big player in the world economy to be able to do import restrictions. Nigeria has a population of 200m and can do what they want bcos it's a huge market. Retaliation will have minimal effect in Nigeria. Ghana can't try that. We are small and it will backfire spectacularly.

How many of us have heard of the Chinese who exports local rice to China and sells it to the most expensive restaurants and hotels in China. Any frequent visitor to the Tema port can do some checks or ask the GRA officers in charge of exports and they will confirm it. We always push the foreigner to succeed and watch ours collapse. And we claim we have leaders who need our votes every four years.

Who is the President complaining to,is he not the one in charge? Or is he in campaign mode like most of his appointees? It requires leadership,steadfastness,integrity and thinking around the box to fix the rice importation nonsense which is nothing short
of economic sabotage aided and abetted by corruption and incompetence by those in charge to wit Agric,Trade and Finance Ministries.
Let me tell the President what he can do;
1.Task the Chief of Staff to form a Committee of experts from Agric,Trade and Finance to oversee this project.
2.Import paddy rice processing plants for all rice growing areas in Ghana,
3.Finance to Buffer Stock Company to offtake all the processed rice and other grains,
Direct all FSHS to buy their rice and other grains from Buffer Stock Company,
4.All these must be done alongside incentives to local rice dealers and tariffs increases on rice imports to boost the local rice trade.

Kwame Peter, nice one but let's ask the president WHO are those importing the rice? Is it not members of the political class which he belongs to?

The problem with african leaders is their inability to take the biiter but right decisions to correct social and economic ills plaguing their countries. The rice importation issue raised by Mahama is a typical example. Mahama has rightly identified this problem but has not got the gut to solve it. He is afraid to ban the importation of rice into the country which is the most appropriate decision for him to take. He should consider the banning of rice farming in Ghana then.
