The group seems to be overlooking a key issue: the “skirt and blouse” problem. GTEC previously pursued lecturers over this so-called “skirt and blouse” concern, yet there is no clear linkage between his bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD credentials. Only those within the academic environment truly understand the dynamics behind these allegations.

GTEC, as a regulatory body, has largely failed in its core mandate to ensure quality and enforce standards. Why do we still lack uniform, clearly defined policies for promotions, required qualifications, publication benchmarks, and what constitutes community service, etc? The absence of such criteria leaves room for subjective judgment and inconsistent decisions across institutions.

Our tertiary sector needs coherent policies and strong regulatory enforcement to ensure fairness and quality. The increasing financial motivations within many regulatory bodies undermine objectivity and weaken their ability to make sound, unbiased decisions.

The so-called Scopus shouldn't be the only criterion. There must be a clause for researchers in our institutions to publish in at least three-star journals to be considered for a professorial rank. In addition, their citations on ResearchGate should be above 500, and on Google Scholar, above 800. Folks, you can check; some are professors with only 33 citations. It raises questions about the kind of papers they write.
