The most widely recognized world religions are Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism. According to the Pew Research Center, more than eight in ten people, or about 85% of the world’s population, identify with a religious group. About 95% of those people adhere to one of the religions (or one of its subgroups) explored below.1

In broad terms, the role of religion is to help people understand the reasons and purpose for their existence in the world, answer questions about the origins of life, explain the afterlife and spiritual realm, define the nature of deity, clarify if God exists, who He is, and how humans can relate to Him. In essence, religions provide humans with the ties that bind us to God and interconnect us to one another.

Abrahamic Religions

All originated in the Middle East and are monotheistic, meaning they believe in one God. Christianity has its roots in Judaism, and then Islam developed from them.

If Wesley girls was the only high school, then that would have been a different discussion but it’s not.
Also going forward, think the mission schools including the Islamic schools should have prospective students sign an agreement to abide by all the schools rules.

Why dont the muslim families who want their kids to follow the strict muslim religious code of conduct take their wards to a muslim faith based school. Ghana luckily has very good muslim schools who are as good as wesley girls. Its it more about saying my daughter attended wesley girls for their CV or finding a school which will further empower their muslim faith to grow into responsible muslim leaders. Christians are not allowed to gather and pray on Islamic campus etc. All the religious institutions were set up because of their faith so how do you come to tell them what ro do. Can a tenant tell the landlord what to do? If you can't stay, find a suitable school. Islamic Scholars should rather advocate for more Islamic schools for their people. His call to the Ministry of Education lacks foundation given the clearly stated rights and responsibilities involved.

In sum, Wesley Girls SHS must retain its authority to run a disciplined, principled Methodist school. The Sheikh’s condemnation is a misguided attack on a proud institution that respects religious plurality while protecting its mission and values firmly anchored in the Ghanaian Constitution.

Let pupils study the curriculum at school and worship at home if they wish. The current clamor by the Christian councils, Catholic bishops, and Muslim groups over Wesley Girls’ High School is a warning. If every denomination demands its own rules, government must equally fund traditionalist schools to uphold democratic fairness. That path is avoidable. Let's keep religion out of the timetable, keep schools for education alone. That's my take.
