That’s why the El-Wak stampede wasn’t just a tragedy; it was an economic earthquake. Six young lives lost, and with them, the financial anchors of entire households.
Offering a “replacement slot” to bereaved families may sound generous, but it’s also an admission: the system failed them. Medical bills covered, application fees refunded — fine. But where is the real accountability for a recruitment process so chaotic it killed the very people desperate for a chance at stability?
And let’s not pretend this is isolated. From deadly stampedes to botched hospital care — like the young woman in Bechem who lost her leg after a road accident — ordinary Ghanaians are paying with their bodies for institutional negligence.
Ghana’s youth aren’t asking for miracles. They’re asking for safe opportunities, competent systems, and a state that doesn’t turn desperation into death
