Much as I am not really a fan of the current constitution in its present form, there is no need to change anything in it simply because a few terrorists and treacherous foreign assets have managed to sneak themselves not only onto the face of our currency but also onto the right side of our history. It's like having Lee Harvey Oswalds image on some American dollar notes. Those gremlins and cocroaches from the UP/NPP stock should simply be exposed for what they are and that will solve the matter. Having them on our currency notes and eulogizing them for conducting themselves in a politically counter-productive manner that set this country back at least a 100 years, only goes to show how backward we are as a people. Whether they did this out of sheer bulu-bulu ignorance or they were instructed by their colonial"masters" to do so, those who orchestrated this terrible ruse against the people of Ghana should be appropriately blacklisted in our contemporary history books and public discourse. For them to have formalized and established this counterfeit of truth for over 50 years upon millions of Ghanaians since then, also proves that the kind of education that we are inflicting upon ourselves is not only counter-productive to the enhancement of our well-being, but also, it has become a tool of subservience and self destruction.

How can thinking human beings who at the least opportunity, emphasize the "sanctity" of our so-called sham democracy but have the name of a coup maker emblazoned as the name of our major airport of entry into the country? Where else in the world could it have happened in the 20th century that, after being inhumanly enslaved and tyrannically colonized for over 400 years, on the eve of independence, a small group from among the victims of this world's most egregious holocaust, take a plane abroad to meet our oppressors to plead with them that we are not ready for independence so they should forget it. That isolated act alone should by itself, be considered as a crime against humanity by all Africans who have managed to escape from the still prevailing gloom and self-destructive mode of slave mentality. It should even be considered in the Guinness book of records as the dumbest act of stupidity anywhere in the world. Then after committing this most shameful act of racial self-debasement, they then proceed to put the images of the leaders of this sordid act on our currency.

Sometimes we chide racist white people for looking down on Africans and telling us in the face that their farm animals and domestic pets are even more intelligent than black people. But damn it, can we fault these racists when we have some of our people leading them on to think and to say such things about us?

As a sociologist, it would be surprising if Nkrumah himself didn't know that you can't have everyone having one idea on how to gain our independence. So, just like Nkrumah saw the other five as traitors for not accepting his idea, I believe they also saw him likewise for overstepping them after the favor they gave him. In my opinion, "Independence now" and "Independence within the shortest possible time" was the same goal but different timelines. Radical approach and systematic approach have their good and bad. If we are engaging in history of divisiveness in the 21st century instead of what will advance us in the era of technology, we are worse than traitors. No country has ever developed by remaining stuck to their toxic past like we do in Ghana. Even Kotoka who overthrew Nkrumah has the Accra international airport to his name. So, why crucify the big six collegues just because they expressed a different opinion? Lets think about cedi stability instead of graphical outlook.

JB Danquah and his retinue of knaves present a classic example of what being a traitor is. They were in the pay of foreign actors to undermine the sovereign integrity of their own country and if possible, to assassinate the President as they had tried to do several times during that period. The penalty for such misconduct in most countries is the death penalty. Nkrumah's govt was kind and did not push for his execution upon conviction.

Neither was there anything like the Big Six - officially or otherwise. The term was loosely used by a journalist at the time, to describe a few members of his own liking in the UGCC. Nothing more than that. Period.

Dr Kwame Nkrumah also did so much for the north as well interms of education:
Ghana College, Tamale, Government secondary school, Tamale, Bawku, Yendi, Lawra, Wa, Nalerigu Damongo secondary schools etc.. You are right Kwame Nkrumah was a visionary leader. He did all this in less than 9years.
What a big loss he has been to the nation!!! His compulsory policy of education for all children gave some of us especially from the north the opportunity to go to school. Otherwise my father had no clue about education and didn’t see the need for his children to go to school.

Don't forget Acherensua Secondary School (Achisco) which was the only secondary school in Ahafo until 1970 when Busia converted Hwidiem and Mim Training Colleges to secondary schools. And other schools like Yaa Asantewah Secondary School, Konongo Odumasi Secondary School, and many more. You can easily identify the schools by the similar buildings, which were constructed under the Education Trust Fund. Nkrumah was selfless, and a visioneer. Patasi and Buokrom Estates in Kumasi were rather built by Gen Acheampong, likewise those at Pankronu, Ahinsan, Chirapatre, Pokukrom all in Kumasi, and Dansoman Estates in Accra.
Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI) was built by Canada in the late 70s as a grant, with accompanying scholarships to train Ghanaian tutors to aid staffing.

Ghana College, Tamale, Government secondary school, Tamale, Bawku, Yendi, Lawra, Wa, Nalerigu Damongo secondary schools etc.. You are right Kwame Nkrumah was a visionary leader. He did all this in less than 9years.
What a big loss he has been to the nation!!! His compulsory policy of education for all children gave some of us especially from the north the opportunity to go to school. Otherwise my father had no clue about education and didn’t see the need for his children to go to school.

May GOD ALMIGHTY give him wisdom , anchor and victory to be able to do this again with sustained efforts.
Don't forget Acherensua Secondary School (Achisco) which was the only secondary school in Ahafo until 1970 when Busia converted Hwidiem and Mim Training Colleges to secondary schools. And other schools like Yaa Asantewah Secondary School, Konongo Odumasi Secondary School, and many more. You can easily identify the schools by the similar buildings, which were constructed under the Education Trust Fund. Nkrumah was selfless, and a visioneer. Up to the present, nobody has come out to accuse him of corruption or kalabule. He left no mansion or assets. Ghana College, Tamale, Government secondary school, Tamale, Bawku, Yendi, Lawra, Wa, Nalerigu Damongo secondary schools etc.. You are right Kwame Nkrumah was a visionary leader. He did all this in less than 9years.
What a big loss he has been to the nation!!! His compulsory policy of education for all children gave some of us especially from the north the opportunity to go to school. Otherwise my father had no clue about education and didn’t see the need for his children to go to school.

May GOD ALMIGHTY give him wisdom , anchor and victory to be able to do this again with sustained efforts.
Don't forget Acherensua Secondary School (Achisco) which was the only secondary school in Ahafo until 1970 when Busia converted Hwidiem and Mim Training Colleges to secondary schools. And other schools like Yaa Asantewah Secondary School, Konongo Odumasi Secondary School, and many more. You can easily identify the schools by the similar buildings, which were constructed under the Education Trust Fund. Nkrumah was selfless, and a visioneer. Up to the present, nobody has come out to accuse him of corruption or kalabule. He left no mansion or assets. Dr Kwame Nkrumah also did so much for the north as well interms of education:
Ghana College, Tamale, Government secondary school, Tamale, Bawku, Yendi, Lawra, Wa, Nalerigu Damongo secondary schools etc.. You are right Kwame Nkrumah was a visionary leader. He did all this in less than 9years.
What a big loss he has been to the nation!!! His compulsory policy of education for all children gave some of us especially from the north the opportunity to go to school. Otherwise my father had no clue about education and didn’t see the need for his children to go to school.

May GOD ALMIGHTY give him wisdom , anchor and victory to be able to do this again with sustained efforts.
Don't forget Acherensua Secondary School (Achisco) which was the only secondary school in Ahafo until 1970 when Busia converted Hwidiem and Mim Training Colleges to secondary schools. And other schools like Yaa Asantewah Secondary School, Konongo Odumasi Secondary School, and many more. You can easily identify the schools by the similar buildings, which were constructed under the Education Trust Fund. Nkrumah was selfless, and a visioneer. Up to the present, nobody has come out to accuse him of corruption or kalabule. He left no mansion or assets. Dr Kwame Nkrumah also did so much for the north as well interms of education:
Ghana College, Tamale, Government secondary school, Tamale, Bawku, Yendi, Lawra, Wa, Nalerigu Damongo secondary schools etc.. You are right Kwame Nkrumah was a visionary leader. He did all this in less than 9years.
What a big loss he has been to the nation!!! His compulsory policy of education for all children gave some of us especially from the north the opportunity to go to school. Otherwise my father had no clue about education and didn’t see the need for his children to go to school.

May GOD ALMIGHTY give him wisdom , anchor and victory to be able to do this again with sustained efforts.
Don't forget Acherensua Secondary School (Achisco) which was the only secondary school in Ahafo until 1970 when Busia converted Hwidiem and Mim Training Colleges to secondary schools. And other schools like Yaa Asantewah Secondary School, Konongo Odumasi Secondary School, and many more. You can easily identify the schools by the similar buildings, which were constructed under the Education Trust Fund. Nkrumah was selfless, and a visioneer. Up to the present, nobody has come out to accuse him of corruption or kalabule. He left no mansion or assets. The reign of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo may have long been over since January 7, 2025, but the very people who helped him during his 8 years in office may not all been enjoying their ‘retirements’ so well, or so quietly.

And this is for reasons aligned to promises and what appears to be a robust aim by the John Dramani Mahama government, which took over from the past one, to prosecute any forms of corruption that arose during the former administration.

These formed part of campaign promises by John Mahama and his National Democratic Congress (NDC), coming into the 2024 Election, and so far, they have been determined on achieving that.

Caught up in that, have been a number of appointees of Akufo-Addo who have ended up several investigations, or, in simple terms, whose names have been linked to controversial wealth that people believe may be, somehow, corruption related.

In this GhanaWeb article, let us take a look at some of the appointees under Akufo-Addo whose wealth came into question, generating national conversations.

In each of these cases, something happened that brought their cases into the public light, prompting national discussions and great interest.

Eugene Arhin

Eugene Arhin was the Director of Communications at the Presidency under Nana Akufo-Addo for the 8 years he was in office.

In 2021, a divorce case with his wife made it into the public, where his wife was demanding for certain reliefs in the separation process.

As part of the things she listed, she made mention of some of the properties owned by Eugene Arhin and these revelations, in the eyes of the public, generated a lot of conversations.

For many, did the Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, amass all that in a space of four years, or during his time in public office?

Gloria Assan Arhin, his wife at the time, prayed the Accra High Court to grant her divorce request and also give her a number of properties, including a five-bedroom residential property (which was intended to be the matrimonial home of the parties) situated on a two-plot of land lying at East Legon in Accra; a four-storey building comprising 16 separate flats/apartments situated on a parcel of land at Bubiashie in Accra which land was acquired from a family friend of the petitioner.

She also asked for a storey building being constructed which comprised of 16 separate flats/apartments situated at Tuba-Weija in Accra.

These were but just three of the over twenty properties she sought after as part of the divorce.

Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie (Sir John)

Sir John, a former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), became the Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission of Ghana until his death.

After his death, his will became public, generating another widespread conversation among Ghanaians. It involved a tall list of 75 properties, including houses, parcels of land, bank accounts, investments, businesses, guns and clothes.

His will also raised public concerns following the discovery that he owned lands at the Achimota Forest. This was also because President Akufo-Addo had, at the time, signed an Executive Instrument that said part of the Achimota Forest was no longer a forest reserve.

Critics said the move was a ploy to get the land into the hands of the ruling elite, an accusation the government vehemently denied.

Sir John’s ownership of parcels of lands at the Achimota Forest appeared to have heightened the deep-seated mistrust of the government and its actions.

Kwabena Adu-Boahene

The last person in this list of Akufo-Addo appointees whose wealth have courted public conversations is the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu-Boahene.

He and his wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng, were recently detained by the Attorney General’s office following his arrest at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

Following his detention, Attorney General Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine revealed at a press conference on Monday, March 24, 2025, a list of properties acquired by both suspects since 2018.

This, he said, was established through painstaking investigations by the EOCO and the AG’s office, indicating that the properties acquired were bought using embezzled state funds.

Below is a breakdown of the properties and their estimated values under the couple’s names below:

1. No. 2 stream part drive, Mayfair Estates, LA, Accra which is estimated at $1,000,000 (valued at GH¢15,000,000)

2. No. 6 Edith Avenue, Mayfair Estates, LA, Accra

3. No. 7 Edith Avenue, Mayfair Estates, LA, Accra estimated at a value of $200,000

4. No. 8 Edith Avenue, Mayfair Estates LA, Accra estimated at a value of $97,815

5. No. 9 Edith Avenue, Mayfair Estates LA, Accra also valued at $270,000

6. No. 10 Edith Avenue, Mayfair Estates LA, Accra at $150,000, Additionally, another initial cash deposit of $500,000 was made to purchase 5 houses.

7. Vertex properties at Oyarifa Gated Estate Development. This consists of 27 houses each valued at an estimated cost of $295,000 (GH¢127,000,000).

8. Two properties in London

The AG further disclosed that an amount of up to GH¢39 million was allegedly diverted and embezzled by the suspects from the agency.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series in Accra on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, Dr Ayine said investigators from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) have traced several luxury properties and suspicious bank transactions linked to Abdul-Wahab, believed to have been financed with proceeds of crime.

“Investigators from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) have traced several properties and bank transactions linked to Abdul-Wahab, which they believe were funded through illicit means,” he said.

The former NAFCO boss was arrested with his wife on June 25, 2025, and detained by EOCO for two weeks before being granted bail in the sum of GH¢60 million with two sureties.

His wife was released earlier on a GH¢30 million bail.

While the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has criticised the bail conditions as excessively harsh and politically motivated, Dr Ayine maintained that the government remains committed to enforcing accountability and the rule of law.

He disclosed that assets allegedly acquired with misappropriated funds include a five-bedroom house at Chain Homes, valued at $1.625 million; a three-bedroom residence at Cantonments purchased for $600,000; plots of land at Airport Development Area worth $750,000; a 17-bedroom boutique hotel in Gumani, Tamale valued at $250,000; a four-bedroom bungalow at Dzorwulu valued at GH¢4.14 million; and a 0.32-acre parcel of government land purchased for GH¢307,200.

Dr Ayine assured that all assets proven to have been purchased with stolen funds will be confiscated in line with the law.

Dr Nkrumah made C E Osei the defeated CPP candidate for Ejisu Juaben whom he had earlier on appointed as a Director of Bank of Ghana sign the Ghana Pound with Alfred Eggleston, the expatriate Governor of Bank of Ghana..C E Osei also signed with Hubert Kessels who took over from Alfred Eggleston. In 1962, Dr Nkrumah appointed William Marmon Quao as the first Ghanaian Governor of Bank of Ghana and William Marmon Quao signed the Ghana Pound in 1963.On 19th July 1965, Dr Nkrumah and his CPP government introduced a new currency for our use and the new currency is the Cedi notes and the pesewa coins. The Minister of Finance who cracked his brains with his cabinet memos and who worked with Dr Nkrumah was Okyenheneba Kwesi Amoako Atta, MP Abuakwa West and Minister of Finance 1964-1966.Kwesi Amoako Atta who uesd to be a NASSO-Nationa Association of Sociaists Students Association- was the first Ghanaian to be appointed by Dr Nkrumah as Deputy Governor of Bank of Ghana in 1960.In 1964, Myles Reynolds Darko Sarkwa, MP Abuakwa West and Deputy Minister of Trade died. A by election was held Okyenheneba Kwesi Amoako Atta resigned as Deputy Governor of Bank of Ghana and contested the vacant seat unopposed. Having won the seat, Dr Nkrumah appointed Okyenheneba Kwesi Amoako Atta as his Minister of Finance.And it was Okyenheneba Kwesi Amoako Atta who worked with Dr Nkrumah to introduce the cedi notes and pesewa coins on 19th July 1965.Please it was William Marmon Quao (WMQ) Halm the first Ghanaian Governor appointed by Dr Nkrumah in 1962 that worked with them to release the cedi notes and pesewa coins and also signed the cedi notes. Indeed WMQ Halm from Akuse has the singular honour of being the only Ghanaian Governor of Bank of Ghana to have signed two currencies..WMQ Halm signed the Ghana Pound on 14 July 1963 and the cedi on 19th July 1965.Dr Nkrumah, Okyenheneba Kwesi Amoako Atta, WMQ Halm should be honoured by Bank of Ghana. Please with all due respect the cedi did not descend from heaven. Please Dr Nkrumah, his Finance Minister, Okyenheneba Kwesi Amoako Atta and William Marmon Quao Halm his Governor of Bank of Ghana,who signed two currencies should be honoured by Bank of Ghana

History will not forget JB’s role in the Kyebi Ritual Murder case which caused his loss in the first parliamentary elections. However, if you really made those pronouncements, then it's not only very unfortunate, but highly DEMONIC. I know an akan proverb which suggests that "...a quack fetish who treats and sustain a sick person until a good fetish arrives is NOT condemned". I hope I got it right, lol.
Today, are you telling Ghanaians that the people who identified the talent in Dr. Nkrumah, spent their resources to bring him back the then Gold Coast, nurtured and established him in politics of the Gold Coast only for him to abandon and desert them to form his own party, these people are now "traitors".
