That was a really very stupid question. How is the number of places of worship relevant to the and success of Ghana? A really stupid question.
I have known since my study into African Traditional Religion that many Traditional Homes have Traditional Deities. I saw one in a family house that we lived in. Yes, women were taken to such rooms especially during their first puberty for rites to be performed for them. I saw one such rites. Who has the time to go to various houses to count such deities? And if they are to be counted, how many households freely allow such deities to be counted?
Will such places of Christian worship include churches under trees and classrooms? And are such places of worship in the classrooms permanent? Some Politicians just ask stupid and silly questions on this forum. The responder should have answered him that we are waiting for the figures from you and your damn crazy parents. Sometimes, stupid questions deserve stupid answers. Are there any laws in the country that requires places of worship to be counted and registered? Does the questioner expect any kind reasonable answer? Go to Suhum Kraboa Coaltar and find the number of churches in school buildings and under trees. The questioner is terribly confused and useless.

AK, I respect your views and you are entitled to them. The long and short of all I put up is that it is not humanly possible to find and count the number of Deities and places of worship in the country because some of them are Household ones and are not even known by members of the community.
Some Deities are considered as sacred and its adherents will not be prepared to disclose the number of deities even in a Stool room, or in the room of the main Deity. For example, Christians talk about the Angels of God in Heaven and on Earth. Do we know their names and number? How do we count them then?

I have a different opinion on this issue. The rising number of shrines, mosque and churches should be a matter of concern for public policy, in particular the way some church or mosque leaders especially leaders of the evangelical churches have arrogated to themselves powers they do not have: calling themselves men of God, 'prophesying' on what government should do, swindling the gullible, etc. My main concern is the impression they have created that all we need is fasting and praying. They are creating a society where an increasing number of their members believe in miracles without working. See how politicians fall over each other to see and get the 'blessing' of these so-called men of God. Do you think the country can afford a workforce which does not believe in work?

We just don't have data on anything in this country and it's a worrying sign. The MP's question may sound stupid, but if the journalist had taken his time he would realise he was driving at a point.Having so many shrines, churches and mosques is a reflection of how deep poverty has entrenched itself on the masses. Majority Ghanaians do not have anywhere to go when confronted with economic, health or social issues than to run to the shrine ,churches or mosques. I am not saying it's wrong to visit such places, but what we need is a more formalised place known to authorities. The state needs data on them to regularise their activities. They have a role to play in the nation's devt.Without that Criminals will take advantage of the society.
