Again, with the instructions on the hair standards, you know so well about the character of our youth of today. You would be surprised at the length people will go if instructions are not issued to guide on discipline, decency, and uniformity. Sometimes it is we ourselves who make these things happen. Nobody will die if instructions are issued on how the hair should be kept in order to avoid waywardness

What some of you thick-headed troglodyte need to do is not to bother going to school at all but just to look elsewhere to see how things are done in this world of today and take a cue from their ways. From those parts of the world where we go to acquire knowledge and borrow their educational systems, their legal systems, their medical systems, their financial systems, their business practices and even their forms of governance, do they "force" the girl-child in their countries to cut their hair as a policy? I haven't researched but I do not think that this kind of nonsense happens anywhere else in the enlightened world.
I am so shocked and embarrassed to see that adults who can string alphabets together to make words and sentences can still resist common sense to make themselves appear stupid with such opinions. It is such backward views that belittle people of African origin to the rest of the world and invite racist abuse upon us.

As for mothers tongue, it is already compulsory to give instructions in mothers tongue in lower levels of education. It is in GES but the teachers always use Akan or any of the so called 9 studied languages. This time it being extended to all languages. No language is superior than the other in this country so kudos ot the education minsiter.

It's a problem with some of our leaders. They love headline grabbing announcements, coined as policy without the support of any research finding. This imposition of short hair directive as policy is not backed by any research findings. Question is does the same policy applies in independent or private schools? Needless to say that, students from independent schools outperform their peers in state schools because, independent schools invest in resources of learning and teaching and in their staff, something that is sorely missing in our state schools. Furthermore, what research informs the requirement of teaching students in their mother tongue? First and foremost do we have the necessary textbooks for instructions in our myriad of local dialects? Will the ministry of education in the position to equip teachers with the tools to teach in the different hundreds of local dialects in Ghana? What about WAEC? Is WAEC capable of producing examination material in every single local dialect? This policies are much ado about nothing.

I don't actually think he mean well. I smell some bitterness in his utterances. As a longtime senior member of the Ndc, what bars him from approaching the education Minister, to discuss his opinion? Rather he prefer to sarcastically make such statement to allow the nation wreckers (Npp), who are doing anything they could use to tarnish the image of a serious minister like Haruna. Ras Mubarak should be carefully watched, because his character is no different from Anyidoho and former Central regional chairman, who is always at Peace FM denigrating Ndc members. Including even JDM. That's the way I see this Ras Mubarak.

Here are four to five potential consequences if Senior High School (SHS) students in Ghana are allowed to keep long hairstyles in school:
- Disruption of Uniformity and Discipline: Ghanaian SHS institutions often emphasize uniformity as part of discipline. Allowing long hairstyles may challenge this standard and lead to debates over what is acceptable.
- Potential Distraction from Academics: Students may spend more time and attention on styling, maintaining, or comparing hairstyles, which could detract from academic focus and classroom engagement.
- Expression vs. Peer Pressure: While some students may feel empowered to express themselves, others might feel pressured to conform to trendy or expensive styles, creating social tension or inequality.
- Administrative Challenges: Schools may face difficulties enforcing boundaries—such as distinguishing between neat and unruly styles, or managing disputes over cultural or religious hair expressions.
- Economic Implications for Families: Maintaining long hairstyles often requires regular grooming, which could increase financial burdens on families, especially in boarding schools with limited access to salons.
Those who are condemn the MoE and GES should be careful. SHS is a foundational transition period to adulthood where discipline is critical. We can't in the name of human rights lower the standards for a few selfish and greedy people.

It’s surprising to hear people advocating for high school students to keep their hair. Hair maintenance requires proper hygiene and other materials to keep the hair clean. We cannot compare ourselves to children living in Europe and America. All public high schools in Europe and America are day schools except few private schools that have boarding facilities. Students have the luxury of keeping their hair neat since they have the needed resources in their various homes. The inconveniences in carrying some of these hair products to the boarding house are enormous therefore it must not be encouraged. Let’s support the minister to ensure sanity in our schools. There are more pressing issues in our schools than this nonsense. It doesn’t affect the human rights of our children in any way.

One of the reasons why Ghana is on its knees in all aspects of life. This man is making a point but because of politics some are bashing him for what he has said. Politics has blinded some people so much so that if you don't show praises on the gov't, you are tagged as enemy. A brilliant submission from former MP but the context of his submission is thrown to the dogs. Does it mean a white girl can't be a student in any public shs because of her long hair ? These are trivial issues that don't shape character. Our teachers know how to shape the students but political interference, lack of logistics and motivation are some of the areas where education minister needs to look at. Long or short hair don't produce engineers, patriotic citizens etc.

Of course those clowns who think that long hair (strangely of only girls) create hygiene and disciplinary problems, are the same kind of mumu Africans who would shit in their pants if they were faced with the task to ask white girls or boys attending public schools here to cut their hair. I wonder why they have never raised the more serious issues related to the perennial lack of water in virtually all schools around the country and its serious effects of insanitary conditions - especially for the girl-child students in boarding schools. It is because of this kind of primitive mindset of sub-standard education authorities, that many people avoid sending their children to public schools.

The minister has spoken and you don't agree with him, go to court to reverse what he said. All what you've said bring nothing to the table. The say charity begins at home, so if you don't teach your children about love, respect, corruption at home forget it. B'cos school won't change their mindset. Sometimes parents see some of their children putting up some bad behavior but brushes it aside, saying oo their kids and they would stop. Meanwhile one of the parents would try correcting but one would play defensive role and would become a fight between the parents. They grow up, go to school, put up same bad behavior at school, they finish school and start working. Their bad behavior starts to manifest in their work place, they don't respect, very rude and corrupt, b'cos they couldn't stop at home when growing up. One thing I've come to realize about this Ras Muburak, is that since he couldn't make it back to parliament, any time he speaks, you see the hurt and envy in him, this is a very bad behavior. You can see he was thought at home about life, how sometimes you can loose and sometimes you can win. And how to take it when you loose and how to celebrate your winnings. Always bitter.

Our teachers and protocol. This year's Senior High School admission was a gold mine for heads of Senior Secondary Schools and tutors.
I have been saying that our security services are inept and useless, because ut to date no head of an SHS or tutor has been exposed and punished.
The lowest some tutors took to have students admitted into their schools was Three Thousand Cedis per student. The highest I learnt was Ten Thousand Ghana Cedis.
So the cancer of corruption starts from childhood and pupil and students are thought to be corrupt.
That has made it hard for the cancer of corruption to be fought in our society.
Those who were affected by what is call protocol were mainly parents from poor families with low education.
The majority of them are so gullible that they paid the heads of SHS and tutors what they refer to as protocol.
The Minister of Education and the security services must as a matter of fact setup a committee to unearth this protocol thing and punish those who are involved.
Not only that they must be made to pay back the monies they took from parents and guidance back to them for be prosecuted if they are proving difficult.

Countries with the best education systems generally do not enforce strict discipline measures like mandatory hair cutting as a widespread policy. However, some countries or regions with specific social or disciplinary challenges may impose strict grooming standards, including haircuts, to maintain order and discipline in schools.
Thus, grooming rules can improve discipline and reduce distractions, which may positively impact behavior and academic engagement.Positive effects are more evident in younger students; outcomes in older students are less pronounced.
However, Overly strict grooming policies can cause negative psychological effects and resistance. There is no consistent, direct causal link between grooming rules alone and academic achievement; they are one part of a broader strategy to create a supportive school environment. Thus, strict grooming rules might support academic success indirectly by fostering discipline but are not universally essential or sufficient for top student achievement

Garry the German linguist Bop wrote that language is the soul of the people, when the language is dead the people are dead.
So that is why mother language must be thought in our schools, just like in the 60s mother language must be compulsory from class one to three and with English introduced in class four in primary schools.
Some of our people who had mother language though them in the basic school are some of the best we have in the country.
There are some countries in which formal education starts at age seven.
My eldest grandson started his formal education at age seven in one of the Eastern European countries.

We are a currupt society and our children are seeing how we are accumulating wealth dubuiosly and they will grow up to be just like the parents. Character has nothing to do with hairstyles. Our children follow our steps. My children go to school with long hair fancy uniforms but they are well disciplined. The children in Ghana are getting worse because of our leaders bad attitudes. If the chief in my home town is digging galamsey, the youths in the town will follow him. If the judge, the police, lawyer, magistrate, chief, queen mother, pastor, head master, minister, mp, doctor is taking bribes, our kids are going to learn from them. These are the main problems in Africa continent. The discipline has to come from the top so the children can learn from us. I don't smoke and drink so, my children don't. Who are doing all these corruptions, galamsey, stealing like double salaries? Our leaders who are law makers are taking double salaries. Why the police and the judges taking bribes? Our children are learning from them. The same people going to church are doing the galamsey. Institutions are not working because of corruption of our leaders, and the citizens. All these started after we gained independent. The government of Ghana must start discipline the top officials first to set samples to our youths. The police, customs are collecting bribes and no one cares. Africa has a big problems

Ras has missed the point. Dressing code is part of discipline. If the children at that level cannot be guided as to how to appear uniformly and will have to be allowed to appear any how then we are heading towards a crash as a nation. At least there should be difference in the looks between the learners and their teachers. If they are allowed to appear just like their teachers, they will assume to be adults and there will total chaos in the second cycle institutions. So, they should be regulated as to the kind of hairstyle they should wear.

Ras Mubarak really hates the Hon. minister who meant no harm at all. In the olden times, these qualities of high standard of hygiene, keeping to time, patriotism, and of cause having a uniform appearance. One important thing one had to observe in the secondary school by then was not to keep your hair overgrown or unkempt. I am therefore surprised at this antagonistic attitude coming from a former MP. Ras Mubarak should tell us why he kept his hair trimmed. He should have left it to overgrow alongside his sideburns and mustache. What is the problem with this insolent man called Ras Mubarak? During his time as an MP, I didn't hear him propounding theories of having students grow their hair, keeping their mustache let alone dressing anyhow. You would wonder what is it wrong with this shameless man. Since the education minister assumed office, we have seen giant steps taken by government to rebrand education. However, this twerp called Mubarack never saw the developments but has decided to take a swipe at the minister. Whether Ras Mubarak likes it or not, we, the people of Ghana voted for the NDC and if he is embittered by that, he can either slip into hibernation or leave the country. He has no right to throw vituperatives at our Hon Minister. Its only an indisciplined, uncouth idiot or an il-bred who would take this path. I think the BNI has work to do and the faster, the better. We need respect for authority in order to thrive and reset the country that Mubarak and his likes wantonly destroyed. Please, pick this idiot up. That is the way to instill discipline in the youth. You throw stone, you get confined.

You said morality is not determined by appearance, please it does. Why are they wearing uniforms? Why are they not putting on any clothes? There must be uniformity. They can not be allowed to do anything they like.
Ras Mubarak is fooling too much, the NDC party should call him to order. If they allow him to be running his mouth one day he will insult the president and veep.
