Either someone intentionally overstated the grand total or it was purely a typographical error. The sum of itemised bill is what is in contention here. Your attempt to hide behind what the contract sum says won't wash. And this is what casting in audit is intended to achieve. You'll cough the money as your collaborators are no more in power.
