I witnessed two Ghanaians personally known to me die similarly in Maryland a few years ago. A guy and a gal. Depression, loneliness and stress will kill you in that country. America is simply not our natural habitat. We struggle to adapt and ultimately end up with all manner of mental issues. It's like taking a lion from Africa to Alaska or taking a polar bear from Alaska to the Serengeti in East Africa..... They won't survive.

Loneliness or isolation is common when you are living in so-called developed Western countries. Age related loneliness is worst amongst Westerners. Family ties are often weaker than in say most African, Asian or Middle Eastern countries. Ghanaians living abroad (whether for study or work) are far more likely to face emotional challenges if they live in parts of these countries where there are far fewer of their own kind. Then there is the issue of discrimination because of the colour of your skin or where you come from. Even white South Africans face some degree of discrimination at work when they move to white western countries!
There is another serious problem PEOPLE OF COLOUR (including AFRICANS) face that is little talked about- it is that during the Winter (low sunlight months) the majority of black people and also people from the Middle East and the Mediterranean regions develop Vitamin D deficiency which diet alone can never correct. Most of the human body's vitamin D is obtained from exposure to sunlight. Black skin tends to block sunlight (which is a good thing if you are living in the much sunnier parts of the world but bad news if you live in parts of the world with much less sunlight) Few Western countries have a firm Public Health Policy that deals with this problem in people of colour. In Western Europe including the UK the relatively low Sunlight months go from about October to March. During this period the Blood Vitamin D levels of everyone, especially Black people drops below normal .
ONE OF THE NUMEROUS SYMPTOMS OF VITAMIN D DEFICIENCY IS LOW MOOD OR DEPRESSION. In some people this deficiency can persist all year round especially if they do REGULAR NIGHT SHIFTS or spend most or all of their working days indoors. Vitamin D deficiency is especially prevalent in those who are elderly, housebound and especially in those who do regular night shifts. Also, pregnant women tend to be low in vitamin D. The role of Vitamin D in increasing a person's resistance to infections including Flu, common cold and Covid -19 are well recognised now.
IF YOU LIVE IN GHANA, YOU DO NOT NEED VITAMIN D3 SUPPLEMNTS
Unfortunately, people of colour tend to be the ones found doing night shifts in Western countries.
PEOPLE OF COLOUR ARE USUALLY ADVISED TO TAKE A LOW DOSE SUPPLEMENT OF VITAMIN D3 1000 UNIT A DAY (25 U/DAY) WHICH CAN BE PURCHASED VERY CHEAPLY WITHOUT A DOCTOR'S PRESCRIPTION. NOTE THAT THE CORRECT FORM OF VITAMIN D IS D3.
The consequences of persistent vitamin D deficiency are numerous and can be very serious and those who think they are at risk of developing this are advised to read about this critical "VITAMIN" themselves.

What a foolish remark! Right now, I know of at least half a dozen ladies in Ghana and abroad who are struggling to care for their children because there is no man in the house. Some of these miserable ladies thought they had to "do something" before it was too late for them to bear children. Sadly, these women have since discovered that rushing into a mating arrangement with a man so that they can help you get children can be a very expensive mistake both financially and emotionally.
UNFORTUNATELY, MANY WOMEN WILL CONTINUE TO USE MEN AS IF THEY ARE A HORSE STUD TO IMPREGNATE THEM. THIS IS AN INCREDIBLY FOOLISH AND VERY SELFISH APPROACH BECAUSE LITTLE ATTENTION IS PAID TO THE EMOTIONAL NEED OF CHILDREN TO HAVE THE CONSTANT PRESENCE OF A FATHER IN THE HOME.
