It is worrying and annoying how even the most educated sections of Ghanaian society get impressed and excited about high academic titles which do not seem to have any reflection or bearing on the social and economic conditions in the public domain.

Meanwhile, the following seems to be the true state of the nation. Open defecation, long queues at public toilets, insanitary, unhygienic and stone-age sewage conditions, overcrowded residential areas that are littered with garbage and cluttered with unsightly kiosks and all manner of temporary structures, multiple slum areas in cities and towns, a complete lack of or, at best, unreliable provision of utilities such as common potable water and electricity, bad difficult to navigate roads, a huge inexplicable discrepancy between incomes and the cost of life, doubtful educational content and standards etc, etc. This is the mainstay of even the capital city and other urban areas of a country where at the very least, 80% of it can be classified as rural or slum in nature.

It is frightening to think that Ghana has, in fact and in deed so soon, degenerated to the unenviable level of Nigeria where non-performing double and even triple doctorate holders who show no trace of basic common sense, can be pulled out of every hovel.

In the midst of the prevailing doomsday realities where copy and paste doctorate holders strut arrogantly in the corridors of public institutions like village headmasters, emigration has become the most aspired ambition of the overwhelming numbers of the disenchanted youth who openly brand their country with a no hope label.

Anyway, it is hoped that Dr Naa Deidei Tagoe will be able to match her apparent natural beauty - as observed in the accompanying photo, as well as her touted academic distinction, with future outstanding professional performance. Education is not only proven with fanciful certificates. The true mark of education is found in excellent and quality professional performance.
