It wasnt thought right through. Thanks to our former chief justice one cant use a birthcertificate. How many citizens have passports. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has backed claims by its Managing Director, Kristalina Georgieva, on the current state of the Ghanaian economy and its major causes.

The Fund's Director of Communications, Gerry Rice, at a press conference maintained that just like any other economy, the current Ghanaian economy has been pressed very hard by developments in Ukraine as well as Covid-19 shocks.
He, therefore, believes the country’s current situation has been compounded by development which can be described as external shocks.
Mr Rice said this while responding to a question by a journalist during a virtual press conference.

We have to understand that. I am not against Ghana card, it is very important to have as Ghanaian. But it is different from what UK wants to introduce. In fact uk was using this electronic or digital card early 2000 before it was abolished.

What the UK is about doing is not quite different from the GhanaCard. Information on our digitalised multipurpose National Identify Register can be accessed through various means and not only through the GhanaCard, which is both contact and contactless. Other means are fingerprints, Smart Mobile phone, Tablet & PC Apps, etc,. The most important thing here is the digitalised multipurpose National Identity Register, the means of accessing that Register can be anything more convenient, affordable and usable. UK’s decision to use smartphones might be a way of sharing the rollout cost between the individual who owns personal smartphone and the state who also owns the National Identity Register, and to also make usage more flexible and convenient. On the other hand, not many Ghanaians have smartphones or are quite savvy with their use. Hence, I guess, GoG going for the Card and bearing the entire cost of its first issuance in order to make it available and accessible to all Ghanaians. Ghana can conveniently migrate to smartphones at anytime, when the cost of owning smartphones becomes affordable and the usage, quite common to all Ghanaians. The migration can easily be done by developing Mobile Apps to interface with the digitalised multipurpose National Identity Register, and then looking forward to the time when it will just be only the fingerprints. This is just the matter of the individual country’ stage of technological advancement.

Lets make our ID card well protected, secure, difficult to easily clone or obtain by persons who are not supposed to do so. Before we blah blah blah about the effectiveness of it to compare to other countries. We got a digital id but when you go to a polyclinic, police station some hospitals etc they cant even verify it. Lets work towards a workable system where our id cards prove to protect the holder, secure and verifiable at all points to secure our country and borders. Until then lets stop to comparing ours to australia.

Don’t be an alarmist or a rumourmonger by exaggerating and spreading information that you cannot substantiate. This is not to say that our system is foolproof, but just be a good citizen by reporting that which you know of.
