Nobody is a liar here; neither is Bawumia. Then, it seems people are quick to put the blame on the Akufo-Addo administration without understanding what the World Bank is saying. The structural problem of the Ghanaian economy, if we were to evaluate it in the span of the Fourth Republic, is that the worst chunk is to be blamed on the NDC administration. The vulnerability and the weak structures did not begin from the NPP administration, and neither were they created by the NPP administration. I would say that given the weak fundamentals at the time NPP assumed office and before COVID-19, it did pretty well and far better than her predecessor to put the economy on the right track. It is absolutely correct that the prevalence of COVID derailed their promising efforts.

Any hitch in the global supply chain has economic consequences, the impact of which varies depending on the strength of a particular economy. As far as I know the Ghanaian economy has been week for a period predating Akufo-Ado. If there wasn't economic crisis Atta-Mills Mills wouldn't go to world bank, John Dramani wouldn't go to world bank in 2013. Tell me how we could have a solid economic structure when Akufo-Ado took over a country already under IMF support? I wouldn't say Akufo-Ado's government has no blame in this, but we have to be objective enough to know that there were genuine challenges he faced despite his mistakes. If JDM would be sincere enough, he would admit he was also part of the problem.

The write up is about the resilience of the Ghanaian economy and its ability, from the past, to withstand shocks, and not just about the recent effects of Covid-19 and Russian-Ukrainian war. Was Nana Addo the one who took Ghana to the IMF for all the 17 number of times? The economic fundamentals are already weak, albeit successive efforts to strengthen it, and have increasingly become very susceptible or vulnerable to external shocks.
