Supreme Court places Injunction on EC, AG

....over 6 Electoral Areas in Akuse*

The Supreme Court has placed an injunction on the Electoral Commission restricting it from conducting the District Level Elections in some 6 electoral areas within Akuse in the Eastern Region.

Nene Azago Kwasi I and Charles Martey Korle both of the Manya Krobo Traditional Council filed the injunction restricting both the Electoral Commission and the Attorney General, in protest against Parliament’s decision to re-align six electoral areas in Akuse from the Lower Manya District in the Eastern Region, to the Dangbe West District in the Greater Accra region.

The Lower Manya Traditional Council is bent on ensuring that the Supreme Court ruling which placed those 6 electoral areas under the jurisdiction of Lower Manya be enforced to the letter.

A section of the youth in the area are bent on ‘spilling blood’ in Akuse if the said election is carried out in Akuse under the Dangbe West District; the supposed new jurisdiction.

Some opinion leaders who preferred to remain anonymous alleged that a few highly placed government officials, one of whom was a former regional minister, and another who currently holds a national position in one of the state agencies are behind what they describe as frantic attempts to carve a new district out of this re-alignment.
