  Military Coups are usually unnecessary but sometimes they become the Devil’s alternative. As a matter of fact, Nkrumah was largely responsible for the Coup that ousted him from Power. Nkrumah had become dictatorial and imprisoned a number of people who were against his Socialist Government and ideas. He turned Nsawam Prison into a kind of Concentration Death Camp where even the very seriously sick and those who had become blind like J.B Danquah were made to die in Prison and burried at the Prison Cemetery. Strangely enough, some of these included his benefactors.
  Nkrumah also contributed to his own ouster by meddling in International Politics between the Soviet Union and its allies and the Western Countries headed by the USA.
  Kwame also meddled in African Politics for the Soviet Union. Naturally, people from some African Countries came to dislike him
  Finally, I will say that if Nkrumah had not made Ghana a One Party State and declared himself President for life, but allowed Opposition and Internal Reforms, and also had allowed competition in Politics in Ghana, l don’t think he would have been overthrown. Is it not strange that some of the people who supported the Coup that overthrew him were from his own Party. His dictatorship did not help him. He honestly dug his own grave

President Kuffour when he came to power- WENT TO NIGERIA TO BEG, President Obasanjo of Nigeria gave Ghana 500 peugeot cars for the Ghana police use-free of charge, President Obasanjo gave Ghana FREE CRUDE OIL-now you see the irony of what Dr Kwame Nkrumah did for Guinea-Nigeria also did it to Ghana in our hour of NEED.   Dr Kwame Nkrumah also did so much for the north as well interms of education:
  Ghana College, Tamale, Government secondary school, Tamale, Bawku, Yendi, Lawra, Wa, Nalerigu Damongo secondary schools etc.. You are right Kwame Nkrumah was a visionary leader. He did all this in less than 9years.
  What a big loss he has been to the nation!!! His compulsory policy of education for all children gave some of us especially from the north the opportunity to go to school. Otherwise my father had no clue about education and didn’t see the need for his children to go to school.
  
  May GOD ALMIGHTY give him wisdom , anchor and victory to be able to do this again with sustained efforts.
  Don't forget Acherensua Secondary School (Achisco) which was the only secondary school in Ahafo until 1970 when Busia converted Hwidiem and Mim Training Colleges to secondary schools. And other schools like Yaa Asantewah Secondary School, Konongo Odumasi Secondary School, and many more. You can easily identify the schools by the similar buildings, which were constructed under the Education Trust Fund. Nkrumah was selfless, and a visioneer. Up to the present, nobody has come out to accuse him of corruption or kalabule. He left no mansion or assets. Akuffo Addo family and the Akyem traitors are thieves, and with fake British vocal accents.
  How can foreign agents who helped overthrow the greatest African leader of our time ever be the source of inspiration? Yet today, some of them are celebrated, their names carved into our national story as though they were patriots.
  
  Let us speak plainly: one of these so-called heroes destroyed the foundations of our industries, handing assets to his wife and cronies. Another, J. B. Danquah, betrayed the very cause of independence and sided with those who sought to keep Ghana shackled. And Emmanuel Kotoka, whose coup cut short our march toward true self-determination, is still paraded as though he were a liberator. These are not heroes. They are traitors.
  
  The tragedy is not only in what they did, but in how their legacies have been dressed up for the next generation. If the adults fool themselves, the children are watching — and they will see through the lies. You cannot build a nation on falsehood.
  
  This is why today, the NPP is reaping the fruits of the seeds it sowed. By glorifying betrayal, by distorting history, by venerating those who sold Ghana’s future to foreign hands, they have set themselves on a path where truth and justice catch up.
  
  History has only one verdict: those who sell their people for personal gain are never remembered as heroes, no matter how many statues are built in their name.

  That article does not paint an accurate representation of Nkrumah's ouster. The key persons behind the coup were not at the airport to see Nkrumah off on his foreign mission. Busia and the Danquah Tradition, along with the USA and its CIA were the key plotters of the coup. Busia's main person within the Ghana military was Major Afrifa. Afrifa was to make Kotoka the head of the military regime because Kotoka enjoyed wide support within the military and as such would ensure more military members' support for the insurrection. The statements read by Kotoka after the coup had been deemed a success was actually written for him by the CIA attaché at the American embassy in Ghana. Afrifa and Busia had no desire to keep Kotoka on for long, for the plan was to have Afrifa eventually take over the leadership of the military regime in order to prepare Busia to become the Prime Minister after the exit of the military regime. Ankrah was later brought on to head the regime because the Busia and Afrifa were not convinced that it was safe for them to start putting their plans forward to that will ensure Busia becoming the next Head of State. Busia and Afrifa eventually used a Nigerian con man name Nzeribe to deceive Ankrah into making moves that would go against the wishes of the military regime, and that caused his ouster, resulting in Afrifa taking control of the military regime. Once Afrifa had control of the regime, Busia was made head of the Centre for Civic Education, enabling him to crisscross Ghana and making himself known to the masses. Meanwhile, Afrifa and the regime issued decrees proscribing Nkrumah's party members from running running for any future office, thereby leaving Busia with little political competition in the country. Most of the high ranking Police officers in the regime had no clue that Busia and his Danquah Tradition had been working with the USA and its CIA to facilitate the coup against Nkrumah, and that Afrifa was the mole in the military working with Busia and the CIA. The CIA had the assistance of someone with Ghana roots helping out as a USA government official, unbeknown to most people. One never knows what hats American government workers wear in addition to their regular job descriptions in America's diplomatic corps.

  On September 21, 1909, in the quiet village of Nkroful in the Western Region of the Gold Coast (now Ghana), a seed was planted — a seed that would grow into a mighty tree: Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
  
  From Nkroful to Achimota College, from Lincoln University in Pennsylvania to the London School of Economics, his thirst for knowledge was unquenchable. But beyond academic pursuit, Nkrumah carried within him a deeper calling — the liberation of his people from colonial bondage.
  
  By December 1947, he left London to join the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC), giving renewed hope to a people who had long dreamt of freedom. But when ideological differences slowed the march toward independence, Nkrumah charted his own path. On June 12, 1949, he broke away and founded the Convention People’s Party (CPP) — the movement that became the driving force behind Ghana’s independence.
  
  From March 6, 1957, to February 24, 1966, Nkrumah’s nearly nine-year leadership transformed Ghana socially, politically, and economically. Among his remarkable achievements were:
  
  1. Construction of over 947 km of railways
  2. More than 20,000 km of new roads (including the iconic Tema Motorway)
  3. 35 secondary schools built from the Education Trust Fund
  4. 16 teacher training colleges established nationwide
  5. Founding of key institutions like Accra Polytechnic (now Accra Technical University) and the University of Cape Coast
  6. Expansion of health facilities from 150 to over 300 by 1966
  7. Development of the Tema Harbour
  8. Establishment of over 100 industries to process Ghana’s raw materials
  
  Beyond Ghana, his vision embraced the continent. His tireless efforts for African unity culminated in the creation of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) on May 25, 1963, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia — a foundation for today’s African Union.
  
  Yet, his bold dream came with resistance. Enemies of progress arose, friends turned against him, and conspiracies brewed. No fewer than six assassination attempts were made, often aided by his own people. On February 24, 1966, his government was toppled in a coup, cutting short his vision. Propaganda branded him a “dictator,” but history reveals that his only “crime” was daring to dream of a united, industrialized, and self-reliant Africa.
  
  Today, we look back with regret for the lost opportunities, but also with pride for the legacy that endures. As the NDC ensures that the spirit of Nkrumahism lives on, we declare that no force can erase his memory.
  
  May the Almighty grant us leaders of vision, courage, and service like you.
  We celebrate you, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah — the African Man of the Millennium. Your legacy lives on, for indeed:

  Kotokas's name must be removed and the airport renamed KWAME NKRUMAH INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. Kotoka was a coup maker and should not be celebrated. He and Afrifa, with the connivance of the people of UGCC/UP and now NPP, supported by the CIA, orchestrated the overthrow of our first president and so does not deserve to be honored in such manner. His statue at the airport must also be removed and taken to his hometown or be placed at the national museum.

  Generally speaking, I don’t like coups but in the case of Africa, we invite them. Why did Nkrumah decide to hang on to Power and wasn’t prepared to hand over? Did he has a Vice President? Or he thought he was all Ghanaians have? Even some of his own Political Party members were scared of him and fled Ghana. Dictatorships and desires not to give Power away peacefully have been the bane of Democratic Africa. Count the number of African leaders who have been clinging on to Power than their allowed period and you shall be surprised.. African leaders are the causes of Military Takeover and troubles in Africa . Just look at Gaddaffi. Was he ever prepared to hand over Power peacefully? Where is he now? Look at Idi Amin too.

  Ghana College, Tamale, Government secondary school, Tamale, Bawku, Yendi, Lawra, Wa, Nalerigu Damongo secondary schools etc.. You are right Kwame Nkrumah was a visionary leader. He did all this in less than 9years.
  What a big loss he has been to the nation!!! His compulsory policy of education for all children gave some of us especially from the north the opportunity to go to school. Otherwise my father had no clue about education and didn’t see the need for his children to go to school.
  
  May GOD ALMIGHTY give him wisdom , anchor and victory to be able to do this again with sustained efforts.
  Don't forget Acherensua Secondary School (Achisco) which was the only secondary school in Ahafo until 1970 when Busia converted Hwidiem and Mim Training Colleges to secondary schools. And other schools like Yaa Asantewah Secondary School, Konongo Odumasi Secondary School, and many more. You can easily identify the schools by the similar buildings, which were constructed under the Education Trust Fund. Nkrumah was selfless, and a visioneer. Up to the present, nobody has come out to accuse him of corruption or kalabule. He left no mansion or assets. Akuffo Addo family and the Akyem traitors are thieves, and with fake British vocal accents.
  How can foreign agents who helped overthrow the greatest African leader of our time ever be the source of inspiration? Yet today, some of them are celebrated, their names carved into our national story as though they were patriots.
  
  Let us speak plainly: one of these so-called heroes destroyed the foundations of our industries, handing assets to his wife and cronies. Another, J. B. Danquah, betrayed the very cause of independence and sided with those who sought to keep Ghana shackled. And Emmanuel Kotoka, whose coup cut short our march toward true self-determination, is still paraded as though he were a liberator. These are not heroes. They are traitors.
  
  The tragedy is not only in what they did, but in how their legacies have been dressed up for the next generation. If the adults fool themselves, the children are watching — and they will see through the lies. You cannot build a nation on falsehood.
  
  This is why today, the NPP is reaping the fruits of the seeds it sowed. By glorifying betrayal, by distorting history, by venerating those who sold Ghana’s future to foreign hands, they have set themselves on a path where truth and justice catch up.

  Dr Kwame Nkrumah also did so much for the north as well interms of education:
  Ghana College, Tamale, Government secondary school, Tamale, Bawku, Yendi, Lawra, Wa, Nalerigu Damongo secondary schools etc.. You are right Kwame Nkrumah was a visionary leader. He did all this in less than 9years.
  What a big loss he has been to the nation!!! His compulsory policy of education for all children gave some of us especially from the north the opportunity to go to school. Otherwise my father had no clue about education and didn’t see the need for his children to go to school.
  
  May GOD ALMIGHTY give him wisdom , anchor and victory to be able to do this again with sustained efforts.
  Don't forget Acherensua Secondary School (Achisco) which was the only secondary school in Ahafo until 1970 when Busia converted Hwidiem and Mim Training Colleges to secondary schools. And other schools like Yaa Asantewah Secondary School, Konongo Odumasi Secondary School, and many more. You can easily identify the schools by the similar buildings, which were constructed under the Education Trust Fund. Nkrumah was selfless, and a visioneer. Up to the present, nobody has come out to accuse him of corruption or kalabule. He left no mansion or assets. Akuffo Addo family and the Akyem traitors are thieves, and with fake British vocal accents.
  How can foreign agents who helped overthrow the greatest African leader of our time ever be the source of inspiration? Yet today, some of them are celebrated, their names carved into our national story as though they were patriots.
  
  Let us speak plainly: one of these so-called heroes destroyed the foundations of our industries, handing assets to his wife and cronies. Another, J. B. Danquah, betrayed the very cause of independence and sided with those who sought to keep Ghana shackled. And Emmanuel Kotoka, whose coup cut short our march toward true self-determination, is still paraded as though he were a liberator. These are not heroes. They are traitors.
  
  The tragedy is not only in what they did, but in how their legacies have been dressed up for the next generation. If the adults fool themselves, the children are watching — and they will see through the lies. You cannot build a nation on falsehood.
  
  This is why today, the NPP is reaping the fruits of the seeds it sowed. By glorifying betrayal, by distorting history, by venerating those who sold Ghana’s future to foreign hands, they have set themselves on a path where truth and justice catch up.
  
  History has only one verdict: those who sell their people for personal gain are never remembered as heroes, no matter how many statues are built in their name.

  In 1965 he should have had about 5,000 Ghanaians from the CPP, Workers' Brigade and other in the Trade Unions trained in not only handling weapons, but for combat.
  In that case the party CPP would have called about 2,000 armed men and women to defend the Flag Staff House from the mutineers.
  But there were people still in the security services who supported Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and CPP.
  On 17th April, 1967 a little over a year after the 24th February, 1966 they struck. They captured the Commissioner for Defence Lt. Gen. Emmanuel Kwesi Kotoka, Captain Borkloe, Captain Avevor.
  However they were disappointed by Major Acheab, Lt. Col. Asase and Major Sowu. Who found themselves retired from the army.
  I met Colonel Asase in May 1986 and it was a disaster for him. Two weeks after the hotted debate between him and I, he passed on.
  Two of the gallant men were shot by firing squared and one sentenced to life imprisonment. He will come back from prison in 1972 to relaunch the Ghana Evening News, Lt. Opoku. Others were Comrades Sempe Sasu Baffour-Awuah and Comrade Lt. Owusu Dzimah. All of blessed memory.
  The coup by Colonel Ignatius Acheampong led to the release of all the CPP members, ministers and other functionaries after they were in Protective Custody for 6 years.
  Colonel Acheampong's coup was on 13th January, 1972.

  We heard the firing of weapons of various types from dawn till the morning when Colonel Emmanuel Kwasi Kotoka came on the radio to announce that "The myth surrounding Kwame Nkrumah has been broken. The CPP government has been overthrown. All minister of the CPP government must report at the Police Headquarters".
  A few days after the coup, my late elder brother and myself visited the Flagstaff House, Accra to see the alleged atrocities that the NLC military cum police junta accused Kwame Nkrumah of.
  Our curiosity was about the alleged woman mummy Kankan Nyame, which Kwame Nkrumah was alleged to be worshipping.
  The room at the Flagstaff House in which Kankan Nyame was alleged to be put was rather a film studio.
  Whiles at the Flagstaff House and later withnessing the burial of Lt. General Emmanuel Kwasi Kotoka, Major Avevor and Major Bokloe, it will interest readers that my brother and I weared three feet of cloth, tied to our neck. Coming from the village, that was the best clothing that we afford to put on.
  Lt. Arthur, Lt. Yeboah and 2nd Lt. Osei Poku coup was on 13th April, 1967.
  Lt. Arthur and Lt. Yeboah were shot at the Teshie firing range, after being condemned to death by a military tribunal.
  In 1976 I happen to meet 2nd Lt. Osei Poku who was then the editor of the "Accra Evening News" newspaper and Lt. Owusu-Dzimmah.
