Petition to:
The President of the Republic of Ghana
The Parliament of Ghana
The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ)
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II
Civil Society Organisations and International Human Rights Bodies
---
Subject:
End the Practice of Human Sacrifice in the Name of Tradition
---
I, the undersigned concerned citizen of Ghana state as follows:
1. Right to Life is Supreme
The Constitution of Ghana (1992) guarantees the right to life under Article 13. This right is sacred, non-negotiable, and cannot be overridden by cultural or traditional practices.
2. Outlawed Practices as Precedent
Ghana has already outlawed female genital mutilation (FGM), trokosi and repealed the death penalty. These were progressive steps towards justice and human dignity. Yet the continuation of ritual killings — particularly linked to burial rites within the Ashanti Kingdom — undermines these achievements.
3. Ongoing Threats
Self-proclaimed “executioners” continue to threaten the public with impunity, creating fear and normalising violence. This is not culture. This is crime.
4. Modernisation Demands Change
The Asantehene himself has embraced modernisation and global engagement — attending the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II where no such barbarism was observed. If modernisation is genuine (holding a diplomatic passport, enjoying state protection and VVIP convoys etc), it must include abolishing inhumane customs.
5. Failure of Leadership
Our political leaders, religious voices and civil society groups have largely remained silent. This silence amounts to complicity. Ghana’s progress cannot be reconciled with blood-stained traditions.
---
I therefore demand:
1. Immediate criminalisation and enforcement of laws against ritual killings under the guise of tradition.
2. A clear statement from the Presidency and Parliament affirming zero tolerance for human sacrifice.
3. Public commitment from the Asantehene and the Ashanti Traditional Council to abolish such customs once and for all.
4. Involvement of CHRAJ and human rights bodies to monitor, investigate and prosecute any cases of ritual killings.
5. National education and sensitisation campaigns to protect vulnerable communities from being victims of these practices.
---
Conclusion
Ghana cannot claim democracy and civilisation while permitting murder in the name of tradition. I urge immediate action to end this barbaric practice, protect human life and uphold the dignity of our Constitution.
---

Why has the Chief of Staff suddenly taken over the duties of the Vice president? Suspiciously organising so-called keep fits and jumping all over the place which was never known of him. He should stop these maneuvers because it doesn't help anyone if all those interested to take over from JM should also start these innovative moves. JM needs to deliver to give NDC a bright chance for many years in power. He can't beat Bawumia or Ken Agyapong in an election. I have never heard him defend NDC or debate opponents.

I humbly not understand,nine(9) months in government and has always being the Chief of Staff attending to all gatherings to represent the President. My respectfully question is where is our able Vice President? Is she not fit to show up in such launching programmes. In the era of the opposition party we aways see the Vice President Dr.Mahamadu Bawumia representing the President. My issue is most of the basic school children in the JHS dont know the current Vice President of the Country.Always Foreign Affairs Minister,Chief of Staff,National Chairman of the ruling party.Unless i forget recently the National Chairman is embarking a lead to Thank you tour.Hmm i rest my case but our eyes are widely open watching every movement.Long live Mr. President,Long Live mother Ghana, and Long Live the NDC Party

I will entreat those accusing the chief of staff wrongly of taking over the work of the vice president to go and research on the functions of the vice president and the chief of staff before you displays your ignorance here. We should be circumspect with the kind of unverified information we promulgate to tarnish the hard earned reputation of our leaders.
