When you have the Supreme Court of the USA predominantly stacked with Right-wing ideologues who always greenlight the dictatorial policies of the Executive, that is how hell breaks loose in a democracy.

The conditions on the ground that fomented the American civil war are being repeated in current times - muzzling of dissent and a lack of free speech, rise of racial bigotry, right wing infiltration of the military and other enforcement agents of the constitution, the internal use of the military to do the work of the police, attempts by the executive to use the Supreme court to cow the free press etc.

Unfortunately through their soft power, America is able to get weak African governments to tow their line in accepting deported immigrants some of whom are bundled without access to a lawyer.
