All over the world, University campuses house the academic facilities whilst the neighbourhood private lands accommodate the human beings. ie faculty, staff and students. In the Legon enclave, rich citizens have created cemetery mansion communities like, East Legon, & Westlands driving members of the University community farther from the campus.
70,000 students are now competing for 10,000 beds inside the campus!!!

The issue of accommodations at secondary and tertiary institutions in Ghana exposes the lack of strategic thinking and foresight of instructors, lecturers, professors, university administrators and people in academia who have allowed themselves to be swept into the dirty NDC-NPP politics of our generation.

It does not take one to be a rocket scientist to know that real estate has been the only area in Ghana's economy that continues to give positive revenues on investment returns. One would have thought that the educated elite class, especially the professor/teacher class at our institutions would have ensured that parliament could carve out a statute that would allow, as an option, for secondary and tertiary institution professors to put a percentage of their SSNIT contributions towards direct investment into dormitory/hostel construction across Ghana wherever there is a chronic shortage of accommodations.

In the end, those investments into real estate will bring more money to participants than what SSNIT could ever pay participants.
