Idi Amin Dada (c. 1925–2003) was a brutal Ugandan military dictator and the country's third president, ruling from 1971 to 1979. His regime was characterized by widespread human rights abuses, political repression, and economic mismanagement, earning him the nickname "the Butcher of Uganda".
Rise to power and rule
Military career: Amin began his career in the British colonial army, the King's African Rifles, in 1946, rising to the highest possible rank for a Black African soldier at the time. After Uganda gained independence in 1962, he became a key military figure under President Milton Obote.
1971 Coup: In 1971, while Obote was out of the country, Amin staged a military coup and seized control, declaring himself president. He initially enjoyed support but quickly consolidated power and unleashed a reign of terror.
Brutal atrocities: Under Amin's rule, an estimated 100,000 to 500,000 people were killed or tortured. He targeted rival ethnic groups like the Lango and Acholi, as well as political opponents, with violent purges.
Expulsion of Asians: In 1972, Amin expelled tens of thousands of Ugandan Asians, who were vital to the country's economy. This move led to a disastrous economic collapse that lasted for decades.
Eccentric and tyrannical behavior: Amin was known for his erratic and tyrannical behavior, including bizarre public pronouncements, an exaggerated persona, and personally insulting world leaders. He named himself "president for life" in 1976.
Raid on Entebbe: In 1976, Amin was implicated in the hijacking of a French airliner to Uganda's Entebbe airport, which led to a dramatic Israeli commando raid to free the hostages.
Downfall and exile
Overthrow: Amin's regime was ultimately toppled in 1979 after a conflict with neighboring Tanzania. Ugandan exiles, supported by Tanzanian troops, invaded Uganda and captured the capital, Kampala.
Exile: Amin fled the country, first to Libya, and then eventually settling in Saudi Arabia, where he lived in exile.
Death: He died in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on August 16, 2003, and was buried there.

Only the most ignorant unlibersted slave and house-nigga would willingly quote from prejudiced imperialist references to demonize those whose actions ultimately sought to free humanity from the most despicable crimes against humanity - that is slavery, colonial tyranny and the ongoing scourge of imperialism. Whilst we are at it, how many millions of Indians died at the hands of the "GREAT" Winston Churchill in India alone? Of course he is not described as a dictator. How many hundreds of millions of Africans and Asians were killed during the colonial era and even after by the forces of imperialism when they were trying to impose their will on vulnerable defenceless native people around the world? Are any of those respondible described as dictators or terrorists?

It’s time you think right and stop ranting as the conduct of Abronye and the likes has gone overboard and once his actions fall under the litmus test of the criminal code he ought to be dealt with accordingly. You don’t think and determine for the IGP which of the legal frameworks he ought to employ.
If you feel you can justify the venomous tongue of Abronye, just join his legal team and defend him.
You are equally becoming a nuisance in this country and you need to be told.
This small boy or young man goes about insulting everyone in this country and you think that’s the culture we want to embrace?

That Abronye guy is not just a citizen as you put it. He is a senior member of a criminal organization that was recently and firmly voted out of power by Ghanaians. Abronyes continuous, unrestrained and ill-tempered outbursts coupled with untruthful accusations projected at heads of vital state institutions of the ruling govt, have the propensity to cause political and civil instability. Of course for some of us who have studied the history and the true nature of the NPP, we are well aware that the current brouhaha is exactly the end result of what they seek to do. President Mahama, who is generally considered to be a nationalist, must therefore begin to understand the wider perspectives of what on the surface, appear to be trivial issues of an errant political activist. Even though he President Mahama is the de facto leader of this country, the odds are hugely stacked against him by the collusion of internal mischief and global imperialist machinations. Naive legal professionals like Vormawor and Kpebu who only view this crisis from the extremely limited perspectives of the colonial hand-me-down legal system that we practice in this country, have unwittingly become willing actors on the side of those who by hook or crook, wish to re-establish or return the neocolonial kleptocratic system that Ghanaians overwhelmingly rejected in the elections last year, back to power. The only strength we have as a people to prevent such a tragedy from happening, is the strong will of the people coupled with expressions of support for the current govt. It must be said that President Mahama is not quite exactly a revolutionary or a progressive who can transform the fortunes of our country overnight but at the very least he is a good man with good intentions for this country who must be given all the posdible support to prevent this country from sliding back into the diabolical conditions of a neocolonial state.

And in all the stated assumptions above, he will do what he did in his court. And everyone in such situations will behave same. So must investigate to understand him

You are insane. He will even be promoted to a High Court Judge. We should rather praise the Judge for Sanitising our social media than condemning him. When the NDC member was remanded for two weeks for insulting Nana Addo in 2023, we did not hear anyone of you condemning it. Abronye is not more human than anyone. Kudos my Lord.

I SALUTE YOU.Where is Akwasi Pratt, Randy Abbey, Okudjeto, you only wanted political power. As for Sammy Gyamfi, I need not mention his name. Where is Franklin Cudjoe. Tomorrow, let any NPP person attack these patriotic GHANAIANS. I don't like Abronye and NPP one bit ,but what is bad is bad. Shame on you president MAHAMA. We thought, you have changed. You have now, become autocratic. Don't forget, power is transient. We told NPP this and they didn't listen. NDC,your next fall, will be a great one indeed.

You don't know this; you are not a citizen of Ghana.
So, leave Ghanaians alone.
Interesting position by Oliver. I thought he was being objective until reading that he thinks this controversial ruling of the court will create disaffection for the government
These blatant interference in the judicial process must stop. Where did the judge go wrong?

FREEDOM AND JUSTICE..MOTTO OF GHANA
The law is an ass but the Law is no respector of persons.
At the lawcourt, what is Supreme is the Law.
Some elements in NDC who had their background in PNDC, shd have been murdered b4 we entered our 4th Republic. Until there is RETALIATION for what AFRC & PNDC did, NDC followers will never change their violent character.
What about the terrorist horrors inflicted upon millions of Ghanaians by the Mati me Hu, the UP and the PP, the parent organizations of the NPP? Should it likewise be considered to murder them? What a damned fool you are.
Npp sympathizers, you see the true colour of a genuine democratic person? Baker-Vormavor says it as it is. You NPP people think he's pro NDC. He's a true man who believes in unbiased principles. Learn from him!
Who told you those NPP nation destroyers have got any sense to comprehend
What is happening in our country is sad. This IGP thinks he is above the law. You don’t jail a citizen because he insulted you. This is nonsense.
@Kofi Tufour, Abronye is not in jail yet but he will be soon. For now he is being remanded in police custody. Some of you just post because you have data and it looks like every one is posting so you also post.
Ghana Police Service will be purged when there is a. change of govt, the entire top hierarchy has been affected by NDC affiliation.Their presence is not good for the security of the nation.
When do you think this will happen. Ghanaians are not ready for your party. So just keep dreaming.

Our democracy has been turned upside down, tyranny is being used against some people
Those with the AFRC & PNDC background don't want our democracy to grow. This is why some feel John Kufour shd have allowed for retaliation when he took power.CPP had their share in the 60s and it taught them a lesson.
Confused state. If politics of insults is not good, then Kelvin Taylor and many others must not be encouraged to do it.
People who have power must be mindful of how the power is used.
So all thieves must be arrested before any new thief is arrested, right?
Oliver you have earned my respect. God bless you for speaking d truth.
Hmmm! Tetteh Yohuno will one day exit the police service despite his "football age"
This guy might be smoking weed seriously. All those against the detention of Abronye should teach their children how to insult them the parents at home first. Idiots.
