Nothing will happen masa. A Buga buga approach can't force any multinational company to reduced their price, especially when they have a product with no substitute.
Secondly, the Minister's initial argument on appreciation of the cedi doesn't hold any longer. The cedi is currently struggling against all the major currencies. We all knew it was artificial and therefore wasn't going to last.
What NCA can do is to allow more players into the industry and that would ensure competition which would naturally address the pricing issue. Not Buga buga and kokotee.
By the way, why has the government not led by example to reduce taxes at the Port if the economy is doing that well? At least we can all buy cars cheap as they do in Togo and Nigeria.

I think Sam George is beginning to feel some pressure. He had hoped DSTV would back down after his bluff, which would have been a nice political move by him.
Now, it looks like they are calling his bluff, which is going to create a mix of reactions in the public when it is shut down. DSTV is most popular with Ghanaians for programs like the soccer matches etc, and though we would all be happy if their rates are reduced, not all subscribers would be happy with it having to be shut down in a bid to achieve this. When people are not happy, it affects your popularity and government's popularity....which is not good for party politics.

Shake up that sleepy, lifeless & old-fashioned Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC). Let them wake up from their deep slumber. They are such a lazy and wobbly organization. Equip them and give them the free hand to delve into areas such as cable and digital service subscriptions. They have done far better in the earlier years than they are disappointingly doing now. Cut the bureaucracy at the place and let the institution flow with the times. Look at what those small private media houses are currently doing, and compare it to GBC/GTV programmes. When you talk, they will ask you if you have paid your TV license. But if I find your programmes to be daft, what would be my motivation to go for a license

If the Sam George thinks shutting multi choice operations down will affect only the company he should think twice. Ghanaian film/movie makers will suffer. Ghanaians generally will feel. The government should check with Malawi when it had a similar stand off with multi choice’s.

The best is to invite or give a Ghanaian business man a government push to have another similar streaming service in Ghana. Then give the new company many tax breaks. Monitor DSTV and give them punish them for every little infraction going forward. Frustrate them out of the country. Use state power to investigate them excessively and give the must severe fine for the least market or law broken. In three years, they will park their things and leave the country.

DSTV did not say they would not negotiate or participate in the committee discussions, they only said they had not yet agreed to a price reduction. So why all these threats and barking. Does the honorable minister not truly comprehend english? I will be the first to agree that DSTV has taken advantage and increased their pricing without reason. But you must give them a chance to come to the committee talks. If they fail to participate, then you can consider the other options. But stop all the noise for now.

There is no competitor, so why impose pressure? Furthermore, DSTV is a private business, so you cannot force them to lower their prices.
