There are vital signs to look for in a living person even when comatose, such as heartbeat and breathing. A dead body won’t breathe or have pulsating movements from the chest down to the stomach. For whatever reasons Anokye Frimpong “thinks” the dead were were kept in kitchens, this information is not the education we need going into the 2030s when we can’t even manufacture pins and must import toothpicks. As a Lawyer, we’re better informed about legal procedures in rental, marriage, purchase contracts, etc by him than he telling us primitive stories all the time.

Masa if these days dead bodies are kept for days before burial. We are talking about yester years but the practice is still going on. When the Tindana dies such an important traditional leaders body cannot be kept in a mortuary. They bath him, perform rites for a minimum of 3 days before burial. In the night they will bring the body into the yard or compound and play music and women will sit by the body and fan to provide some cooling, then around 3 to 4 am the body will be taken back to the room. They keep on doing this until the 3rd day when they bury.

That was not primitivism. The people had to make assurance doubly sure that a person is dead before it is buried. I grew up around Kwabere Sekyere Traditional area many decades ago when there were no Mortuaries to preserve a corpse before burial.
The moment a person was pronounced dead, the corpse was taken to a special room in the house where the corpse was buried with extremely very hot water with various herbs some of which are very choking and very painful to the eye for many minutes. If the supposed dead body did not show up any signs of life, the body was then declared dead. I never heard of any situation where the dead body was kept at the Kitchen. No, I am grown enough and never heard of any such thing happening.. Anokye Frempong who happens to claim to be a Historian, please we appreciate what you are attempting to do but research further more to come out with more factual information.. Thank you.

I understand that the dead had to be preserved and very much condemned dead but the Dead Body was never kept at the Kitchen. They were kept in special rooms. Our forefathers were very much learned and knew that diseases are, and can be transmitted. There was no reason they would preserve a Corpse at the Kitchen where food was mostly cooked and even eaten. This is just Common Sense.

I am 40 years. I know (not that I heard) our people used to do that when I was a kid.
This practice wasn't done by the African alone, Indians and the Native Americans also have these practices.
Science looks for breathing and pulse to determine life. Life goes beyond breathing and heart pulses. Our fathers knew these things, including the process of death ( death isn't one time, it goes through process).
Aside the reason of the historian, when one exhale the last breath and the pulses stops, it takes 2-3 days for a soul to detached from it lower bodies. During this process the body should be kept in calm, quite place, slightly warm, covered with white cloth.
This is deep scientific knowledge that current science is seriously researching into process of death.

It is a very common practice. Even in the morgue dead bodies are kept in the fridge after they have been left outside the fridge for at least 24 hours.

The practice is still on in the upper east. Check my post above. When the Tindana dies the body must be kept for three days. Even important old ladies and men of certain status in the village get the similar treatment. First they shave the body, bath it and embalm with shae butter and keep for 3 to 5 days. I have witnessed where an old was kept for one full week before burial. They couldn't bury because she died in the middle of another funeral so they complete the rites for the first one before starting the second one
